Teething- Ok- my baby's tooth is now "visable" but not all the way through- he is still waking 5-6 times ...

Still waking 5-6 times a night %26amp; not taking longer than 20 min. naps a day. He seems to be in pain a lot of the evening %26amp; night. When will the pain stop? I can feel the ridge (feels like the top of our teeth) of the tooth %26amp; can see a little white, but its not up yet. I have been giving him tylenol %26amp; orajel for 8 nights in a row, but get nervous about that. (2-3 times a night) I am taking him to the Dr. to be sure its just teething %26amp; not his ear, ect..

Here's my question-

1. when will the pain stop? Does the tooth have to be all the way up?

2. Do you think he'll have to be "re-taught' to sleep through the night again (he was sleeping 8-5, but after about a week of training ... let him cry about 10 min, then go in, ect...) or do you think he's just up from the pain.

when I pick him up, he calms down until I put him back into his crib. He is almost 7 months old %26amp; fed solids 3 times a day %26amp; breastfed.

thanks!

My daughter is 7 months old and does the same thing when teething. She has 7 teeth now and the top four cut at the same time...it was a nightmare! She normally sleeps really well at night but when she is cutting teeth she's up like 8 times crying.

I've tried teething tablets, rings, you name it...the only thing that helps her sleep at night is drop or orajel and infant's Motrin. Even with that she'll still get up 2 or 3 times, especially around 3am when it's worn off. It'll get better in a few more days, now that the tooth has cut the gum it will only take about a week to come all the way in.

Hope this helps!! Good luck :-)
Reply:I think the pain will be over within days. The gums are stull swollen after the tooth emerges for a day or so. I also think it is a good idea to take him to the doctor to rule out ear infections etc., sometimes teething and ear infections go hand in hand.
Reply:get some baby oral gel. That help with my twins, and some tylonol. Helps with pain.
Reply:Humphey's Teething Pellets, If you have a mom and pop drugstore they should carry it. If not see if your local drugstore can order it. I swear by this stuff my mom used it on me, My aunt on her 4 kids, and my Grandma on her 6 kids. It is awesome, It doesn't contain any "drugs" in it, It has Chamomille, Coffee Seeds, and Belladonna. That is it! I am using it for my 1 year old who is on her 8th tooth, and not a complaint out of her. I used it on my 4 year, when he was teething no problems!

I also recommed you give your baby and very lightly brew Chamomille Tea before bed, Make sure it is warm, not hot or cold, It will soothe the baby!

Good Luck
Reply:As soon as the tooth is through the gum it should stop with the waking pain, but it could still be sore. He also could(and probably is) getting more than 1 tooth at a time. Get him checked at the doc. but to give you some rest give him motrin before he goes to sleep and use Baby Orajel the night time formula(works better). Teething bites but I doubt you will have to retrain him to sleep through out the night.
Reply:The pain should subside when the tooth is about half way through. If he's chewing alot on his hands or toys and making a sort of growling noise then his teeth are bothering him. Also, if he cries like he is really in pain then, it's probably his teeth. Have you tried giving him a teething ring? Put two in the fridge ( not the freezer ) let them get cold then let him chew on one. Anything that's soft and he can chew on will help ie: toys or a stuffed animal. Hope this helps.
Reply:Try teething tablets. I use Hyland's Teething Tablets. My pediatrician recommended them and they WORK! You put a few under their tongue and they dissolve almost instantly. Most of the time I dont even have to use Tylenol.

More than likely he's just awake because hes uncomfortable and in pain. I think once he gets thru this he should do go again at the sleeping thing. I'm sure the pressure when you lay him down bothers him too!

Good luck! Seriously....try the teething tablets. They're usually in the baby aisle close to the oragel. Its not nearly as messy and they dont really taste like anything.
