Which is worse for your teeth, coke or similar product or fruit juice?

Coke could be any common carbonized drink i.e. Pepsi, Dr. Pepper and juice drink should only refers to 100% natural juice, OJ, Grapefruit, pineapple etc. excluding things like sunny delight.

Which is worse for your teeth, coke or similar product or fruit juice?
Unless taken in moderation all of those things are very harmful to your teeth. Even 100% fruit juice is terrible for your teeth if you drink it a lot. This is what our pediatric dentist told us. My kids only drink juice that is 100% but they are limited on it and we water it down. It all contains sugar and it is all the sugar bugs that harm your teeth. :)
Reply:Which ever has more sugar would be worse for your teeth. I would assume that would be sodas.
Reply:I would have to believe Coke itself. If you can use that substance to degrease your engine, I can%26#039;t imagine what it could do to the enamel on your teeth.
Reply:i would think coke or similar products. after all, they contain some form of acid, yes?
Reply:i think seen as thought if u left some coke down ur toilet it would leave it spakeling thats gunna be worse for ya teeth. i had a mail awhile ago saying all the bad stuff fizzy carbonated drinks did to ya body.put me off a tad!
Reply:aerated drinks have negative effect on our calcium formation so they pose more harm to our teeth. Fruit juices won%26#039;t post any harm if you wash your teeth after consumption as far as i know.
Reply:Soda is bad for you. Fruit juice is only bad if you have it before sleep and I mean, drink, get in bed and sleep. If you brush your teeth after drinking it, it should be okay. Hey! Here%26#039;s an idea, try water.

Peace.
Reply:Let%26#039;s put it this way...

My four year old daughter drinks juice and koolaid, and on the RARE occasion, a soda. Her teeth are perfect and white.

My friend%26#039;s four year old daughter drinks nothing but coke and was at the dentist yesterday getting her teeth filled. Her front teeth are rotting out of her head, the poor baby.
Reply:I think a popular soft drink such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and Dr. Pepper are worse for your teeth because it contains numerous amounts of sugar, and sugar is definitely bad for your teeth.
Reply:Coke and similar products. But for sure, not the fruit juice, ofcourse. Its healthy.
Reply:Anything with sugar or salt is bad for your teeth - check the sugar or salt value on the items and that will give you an idea!@
Reply:Both are not good for your teeth, but if it comes to which is worse, Cola. It will strip the enamel right off your teeth!
Reply:The colas are for sure whether it be with or without sugar I is the carbonation that is the worst part for you, not just your teeth but the rest too. It will take the enamel off your teeth and does a job on your insides too. Best to do the fruit juice rather than the carbonated stuff. Just not the sunny delight as it adds a lot of sugar.
Reply:any of them can be bad for your teeth, whether because of cavities, or it can stain your teeth, to minimize teeth problems, drink it with a straw.
Reply:pop
Reply:Both are acidic and bad for your teeth, but the soda can stain your teeth as well...

How can I convince my Dr. that?

Gastric bypass surgery is one of those preventative measures kind of like getting sealants on your kids teeth? With the Holidays here and all the snackcakes I have been eating off of Nasty I am concerned about weight gain. I have a physical this afternoon and I would like to have a clear plan and possibly a pie chart or something to show at my appointment. So hurry up please.

How can I convince my Dr. that?
I am trying to start a lipo fund, no one on Y!A wants to help me, they were just mean. I think we should just fund each others...
Reply:Not true
Reply:Sorry sweetie, unless you%26#039;re 100 lbs or more overweight, it would be unethical for him to do it, and could possibley lose his liscence.
Reply:a psychiatric report might help your gp take you seriously
Reply:Gee. What a great idea. I could use it if I wanted to quit drinking. Which I don%26#039;t. But maybe you could tell him you have some weird addiction. Doctors have all kinds of advice for people who%26#039;re addicts. My doctor%26#039;s always telling me to cut back on the booze and drugs. But he%26#039;s an alcoholic and he gives me a lot of the drugs. Go figure!

Instead of a pie chart, show him pictures of all the pies you plan to eat over the holidays...
Reply:You don%26#039;t need the surgery. I think its fun to find the swiss cake rolls between fat rolls. It makes the delicious cake more enjoyable.
Reply:make sure you tell them that you need it badly or your die if you dont have it.
Reply:Why don%26#039;t you opt for a much less dangerous procedure like swallowing a tapeworm. I%26#039;m sure it would be less expensive, too. I%26#039;ll bet you can find %26#039;em on Ebay. Oh, sure there%26#039;ll be some negatives like diarrhea and abdominal pain but nothing compared to a major invasive surgery. Plus.... its entirely reversible. Once the holidays are over... just check yourself into one of those swanky health retreats for a nice, relaxing colon cleansing procedure. Voila!!.. guilt free holiday.
Reply:Nasty is easy to please. She thinks you%26#039;re just fine.

Your avatar%26#039;s hair makes you look skinny. You are having a good avatar hair day.

A pie chart sounds deelicious! But I%26#039;d say go with a tapeworm or terrifying flu-like virus to avoid the scarring of bypass surgery.

Hey, I cant get in to see a denthist for like 4 weeks (they are packed) and im having so much pain i cant sleep i have taken everything over the counter to help and orajel doesnt help at all! any advise?

p.s I cant see a diff dr because of INS reasons.

Help Pain Wisdome teeth?
Gargle a mixture of salt and warm water or gargle a shot of whiskey or rum for curbing pain due to teething %26quot;wisdom teeth%26quot;. More remedies and information regarding your wisdom teeth at http://useinfo-dentalcare.blogspot.com/
Reply:If the pain is due to a tooth decay then am afraid a dentist may be the only remedy. If it is coming form the gums around the tooth especially when the tooth is just coming out, as most wisdom tooth do, you may try the following while waiting for your dentist. Desolve salt in warm water to a level you can bare as I should warn you is it sometimes pain full but it works. Linse your mouth with the salty water you just made at least twice a day Morning after tooth brushing and in the evening the last thing before going to sleep. This will reduce the amount of infection around the growing tooth and gradually reduce the pain you are experiencing. If this works please DO NOT STOP going to the dentist. They will eliminate all the infection and clear the gums for you.
Reply:Impacted wisdom teeth hurt! Try 800 mg of advil 3 times a day.

If that does not help, ask them to call you if they have a cancellation.
Reply:We had to wait to see the dentist as well. My husband was in a lot of pain from wisdom teeth, and was perscibed 800 mg. of ibuprophen (works best for tooth pain according to the dentist) It really helped. If you can%26#039;t get any strong enough, try to see your regular doctor before hand for a perscription.

Also the Weiss bars are great for numbing the pain

Is anyone watching Dr. Phil?

There is this girl on there right now who is obsessed with some online world. I am assuming it is something similar to the Sims. Seriously, it has taken over her life completely.

Do you know anyone like this? Why would someone want to do this....And why would the parents allow it? The mother is on the show complaining, but yet the girl still has access to a computer. (They even said that the girl gets out of bed, and stays on the computer, sometimes neglecting to shower, brush her teeth, get dressed, etc.) This definitley sounds like some bad parenting to me...what do you guys think about this? How can a parent complain about something, but continue to allow it to happen.

Is anyone watching Dr. Phil?
ABSOLUTELY!! I agree with you 1000%. I understand how it could begin to get out of hand, but it%26#039;s the parent%26#039;s responsibility to monitor and set the limits for how much she is allowed to be online/play the game. They tried a time limit of 4 HOURS and she couldn%26#039;t even abide by that! In the famous words of Dr. Phil, %26quot;Are you kidding me?!%26quot; The extreme yet simple solution after all else has failed is No computer access = no game. Glad to know I%26#039;m not the only one that thought the parents dropped the ball.
Reply:Yeah that%26#039;s bad but not as bad as that girl who was talking to that guy from the middle east. (She was on Dr. Phil too) She ran off to the middle east when she was 16 and her mom got her back but continued to let her talk to him.
Reply:Well, it%26#039;s easier said than done.

I know people like that. I think it%26#039;s normal -which-is-horrible-. My parents complain about everything too, from who has to stock up the toilet tissue -%26gt; why is the hall so messy. But never do anything to the situation.
Reply:My sis%26#039;s bf is like that. his entire life takes place on world of warcraft. they have 3 small children that he is supposed to take care of during the day (my sis works full time and he is unemployed), but at least 12 hrs a day he dedicates to world of warcraft, often leaving the babies crying or with full and nasty diapers. They had diaper rash (bleeding and painful) for at least 4mos because he wouldn%26#039;t change them right away.
Reply:Yes, unfortunately lots of people are addicted to online worlds. Look at WoW and Anarchy Online. Some people spend days at a time one these games. It%26#039;s sad. I%26#039;ve even heard a few stories of people neglecting themselves for so long that they die because they are so engrossed in these games. It is extremely bad parenting though, I agree. Everyone wonders why childhood obesity is so out of control. If all kids do is sit at the computer all day, what else can we expect?
Reply:I didn%26#039;t know that Dr. Phil had that on, but I know about the computer addict.

My daughter does the same thing, she is 24 and has a job and spends all her free time on the computer playing World of Warcraft. She says the people on there are her friends. She never did have many friends, like one or two, all her life.

She does do keep up with the personal hygiene.

She didn%26#039;t start this until she was 22 and out on her own. I would like to get her out with some friends but don%26#039;t know how at her age.

I do make her go shopping with me and do other stuff but young people need to spend time with their peers.

How old was the girl on DR. phil?

So many kids are getting addicted to computer gaming. What did he say about it?
Reply:It%26#039;s just like any old addiction, it comes with withdrawal symptoms when it%26#039;s taken away. Mother feels bad that she sees her child in pain and gives it back. Simple as that.
Reply:that is bad. and gross

no i dont thank God.

but if you think about it, isnt yahoo answers adictions the same thing??
Reply:Actually I think it was secondlife.com.

I can see how that could get out of hand though, the computer is addictive.
Reply:Well, yeah... my husband has an obession with World of Warcraft. He stays on for hours and hours (up to 10 hours a day). There%26#039;s cases of children dying because their parents starve them to death because they are too busy playing World of Warcraft. It was in the news a few months ago... there was one guy who commited suicide over World of Warcraft. His player name was %26quot;ILuvU%26quot;. There%26#039;s a lot of people who are leaving their spouses for people they met on the game and never even talked to in real life. Games can certainly take over your life.
Reply:Some people just find a non-existent world to be more appealing than that of realism, where pragmatism can frighten those who aren%26#039;t ready to be a functioning member of society. This girl is just a perfect example of that and it is really sad. I%26#039;m not going to complain about the mother%26#039;s parenting because truthfully no one in this world could be a perfect parent and they always come with flaws. Knowing her daughter%26#039;s circumstances, she probably didn%26#039;t want to drive her crazy or was simply just afraid of the outcome. It was just fortunate that Dr. Phil encouraged her to take the computer away. And let%26#039;s be honest, parents complain about a LOT of things but do we honestly keep up to their rules? Even though we probably break rules not as severe it applies to the fact that children don%26#039;t obey their parents 100% and we shouldn%26#039;t be as so harsh as to judge her mother, even though she could be a lot better at it.

Seriously though the girl needs to grab a hold on life. Even though she%26#039;s an adolescent and is nearing adulthood, she needs to experience childhood to the fullest in order to lead a normal life without any setbacks. Living in a different world and then suddenly waking up to find out you%26#039;re in reality can be psychologically damaging. There may be countless lives on the internet but we only have 1 in this world so we should all just try to live our best :).\

Just to add, I don%26#039;t think games or the internet itself is bad. Just because there are millions of cases of people losing themselves in a fantasy doesn%26#039;t mean the videogame or technology is bad. As Dr. Phil said they%26#039;re fun and to mess around with and although they%26#039;ve become scapegoats for the psychologically ill or even for the extremely bored, they were really built to do more good than harm.
Reply:My cousin%26#039;s friend is exactly like that. It%26#039;s kind of scary. She wakes up, signs on to myspace for like 6 hours and then plays runescape for 4 hours. She homeschools herself and is months behind on her schoolwork.
Reply:She has an addiction. You can be addicted to anything that gives you an euphoric feeling due to the neurotransmitters in your brain. Although limiting usage to the computer sounds like a great idea, it will not fix the problem. And punishing a child or anything else will not fix the problem either. Someone with an addiction needs to seek help from a professional. This girl needs to get help. Doing anything other than seeking help from a professional is not going to stop the problem.

* I think a lot of people are failing to see that this is an addiction. It has taken over her life. She needs to do it. Taking away the computer will not work. Punishing her will not work. She will go and find a computer somewhere else and do this. When she%26#039;s doing this she feels the same way say someone with a drug problem feels when they are shooting up. Certain neurotransmitters in her brain make her feel great, just like someone taking a drug would feel.*
Reply:It is mostly the parents fault. Lack of discipline and control. They should have kept her away if it was getting bad. Now the parents have to pay the price.
Reply:Nan,

the girl is 13.Bad parenting!!!If she is so concerned about it she should do something abou it before it gets more out of hand than it already is.
Reply:I used to do that during the summer with maplestory. But... i had nothing to do... not like i was neglecting anything.
Reply:I know There.com and have had an account in the game since 2004. It%26#039;s very lightheated and community oriented. It%26#039;s a game, just like any other video game (much like sims). You have to turn it off sometimes. And take people you meet there at face value, you never know who is really on the other side. People get addicted to Quake and Unreal tournament too. When will Dr. Phil cover those more violent game addictions?
Reply:I just started playing There a few weeks ago. It%26#039;s pretty fun and I%26#039;ve met a couple really nice people there that I actually im and email with outside of the game. However, I am 34 years old. I will not allow my 10 year old daughter to play it. I%26#039;ve heard and seen too many concerning things. I%26#039;ve walked past people talking in sexual details, I%26#039;ve been asked by people to have cyber sex with them, and if you have the voice part, you can hear lots of swearing and other inappropriate things that are just not good for kids to hear. I meet many kids on there around 15 years old and recently I met an 11 year old girl. I usually try to caution them to be careful what they say and walk away from creeps.

I can understand where it would be extremely addictive, especially to children who are not very socially accepted in their own schools or other environements. Best to keep their activity extremely monitored or not let them on at all in my opinion.

Post-Op Wisdom Teeth Surgery?

I had surgery on friday morning so it has been over 24 hrs and the bottom left side of jaw, lip and chin is still numb. The left side is more swollen than the right. I am also getting shooting pains but I am not sure if it is into one of the molars or into the socket. Is this pain and or numbness normal? Should I contact my Dr today or can I wait until monday?

Post-Op Wisdom Teeth Surgery?
ok my question is are u taking any type of paine medication and Antibiotics?

If you are,? wait until Monday..take your meds and rest and do nt do anything would make you putting presser on ur head and jaw. your jaw and face if still swollen its ok..it will take usually about 3 or More 4 to 5 days to get rid of this symptoms ..if it did continue you do need to contact ur OS..and discuss this with them ,,,may be you have an infection...but take your meds specially ur Antibiotic all the way through...drink alto%26#039;s of fluid and keep that area clean rinse your mouth ith warm sult water, NO SPIDING PR SUCKKING THROEUGH STRAW...that can open a dry soket and it could be very painfull. hopfuly you are not there..

god luck
Reply:Take some Ibuprophen and wait until Monday.
Reply:My advise is to call a doctor and follow their advice.
Reply:DO NOT TAKE IBUPROPHEN.

It is a blood thinner and will cause you to begin bleeding again.

I just had the same surgery yesterday. The numbness went away in about 4 hours. The shooting pain and the numbness is not normal. You should go see your doctor as soon as possible.
Reply:i also had 2 of my wisdom teeth taken out last friday too! drink the pain meds the dentist gave you and chew just soft food until you can finally eat normally. put on ice on the sore part every 20 mins: 20 mins with ice then 20 mins off the ice. also, gargling water with salt is also helpful! relax ur mind and dont stress urself....

i am still on medication! goodluck o the both of us!

Is it teething or should i contact a dr??

my son is 1years old and just notwteething... he has had very bad diarreha since saturday.. no fever, he has a little tooth coming in and hes been very fussy... but i switched him so silk soy milk about 2weeks ago (per drs orders) and everything went ok until now... is it his teeth or the milk.. i feel so bad for him my little man is misrable

Is it teething or should i contact a dr??
Teething can cause diarreha as well as extra pee in the diapers(because of extra saliva that is swallowed). He doesn%26#039;t have a fever so that is a good sign. As long as he is still eating and drinking lot%26#039;s of fluids, and he is still filling his usual amount of diapers with pee, than he is probably fine. If he still has Diarreha by this Saturday, I would make an appointment, but that would just to be for reassurance.

PLEASE MAKE SURE NEVER TO USE PRODUCTS LIKE PEDIALITE.. They contain electrolytes and should never be given to a child unless recommended by your family Doctor. (elecrolytes should be tested before administering this type of product.)

The best pain reliever for teething is %26quot;Dye free, Childrens motrin%26quot; What I also found helpful was %26quot;Real Fruit %26quot;brand popsicles. They releive pain, taste good and get some fluids into the body.
Reply:You are so welcome. I hope your little guy feels better! Report It

Reply:Doctr
Reply:contact a dr.

u never kno wat could happen
Reply:take him and be sure
Reply:Better safe then sorry. I%26#039;d talk to a doctor. It doesn%26#039;t sound like anything too serious though.
Reply:It could be either but you should call the DR anytime you get concerned. I haven%26#039;t heard of any children with an allergy to soy milk so I%26#039;m sure that%26#039;s probably not what it is. But just be on the safe side.
Reply:Its good that u care, finally a reasonable question to answer...

You should call doctor in my opinion just to see if the soy milk could be causing it. The teething might not be casing it, but what could is what hes putting in his mouth/eating while teething.
Reply:Check the gums...are they red and swallon? Is he drooling alot? It sounds like it%26#039;s the teeth, but watch him closely tho..children can dehydrate quickly.
Reply:yes, it certainly sounds like the way my children were when they teethed. it is a miserable time for parents and children ; but it passes.
Reply:You need to be extremely careful not to let him get dehydrated..with diarreah since Saturday. Give him Pedialite and take him to the doctor as soon as possible. Please see this website.. http://www.babycenter.com/0_dehydration_...
Reply:I would take him to the doctor to get checked out, with diarrhea it is easy to get dehydrated so if he has had it since Saturday I would defiantly get him check to make sure that he is not getting dehydrated.
Reply:poor thing. I know it%26#039;s hard when you can%26#039;t do anything to make them feel better. Since the main change is the milk, I would consider backing off it a bit. It could be both things and the milk could be hard to digest and irritating his bowels more than usual. I don%26#039;t think it would hurt to supplement with more calcium from another source till the diareaha backs off. Try pedialite or extra water (no juice) to keep the fluids up. Saturday till now is almost 4 days, and that%26#039;s a while to have bad diarreaha constantly. I would consider calling the doc tomorrow and seeing what they have to say. Also, stop the soy milk in the meanwhile. Maybe he develeped an allergy to it. I mean, they say sometimes it takes a few days to develop a reaction and you said that this started Saturday (4 days ago), and Soy is a major allergen (so is milk) so . . .maybe. It could also be a virus or bacterial infection- you never know. Try some tylenol for the tooth (ask the doc. how much for his weight probably like one %26quot;vial%26quot; full of the infant tylenol if he/she is 20 lbs like my baby (15 mo)
Reply:Give the doctor a call to be sure. It%26#039;s probably the teething, but you need to be sure.
Reply:Call the doctor, but it could be a little of both. The tooth that is coming in...go ahead and give him baby orejel. The new formula could be causing the diarreha.

Help me DR. FRANK?

Basically it started in January. I had a stuffy nose and I took a nose decongestant to clear it up. My nose became very red and big overnight. The next day my baby sister threw a tub of sudocream at my face and a small bit went up my nostrils. My nose became so big and out of shape I went into the doctor.

He gave me cream which didn%26#039;t work. He then gave me the standard tablets for the infection for a week which didnt work. I got more powerful tablets which again didnt work. The Doctor then took swabs. He said they came back %26#039;negative%26#039; but there is a bit of an infection just on the inside in the corner of my nose which explains the swelling. He then said these things tend to go away themselves The next time I went in there was an Indian doctor in the surgury and he said I had hayfever and to take tablets for 3 months.

They never worked. I went into the doctor again last week and he gave me tablets for a slightly prolonged course. He told me about a 6 month course But never gave it to me because the enamel of my teeth is still hardening. He explained it wasn’t life-threatening but he simply dismissed the fact of what it does to my appearance The tablets he gave me worked at the start but stopped working near the end and the infection came back again. My mother thinks I have been taking too many antibiotics but I read on the Internet it is worse for the infection to take hold but she still won’t take yes for an answer. School starts again in September and I don’t want to go back looking like this! What do you think the doctor will give me this time? I just want to get on with my life.!!!!!

Help me DR. FRANK?
Wow, you have said a mouthful! If you were too young for tetracyclines you would need to be under 12 years, which is the minimum age. ( but you sound older than that!) The odds are that this is still infection, but it is sometimes very difficult to be sure without seeing the patient. No one should leave you or fob you off if your condition is unsightly. You need to get mum back on your side and go back with her to your GP, since is is not likely that any home remedies will work.

Sorry I cant be more help.
Reply:Since the antibiotics don%26#039;t seem to be working for you, perhaps nasal irrigation can help with your problem.

What is the average price for a teeth cleaning session at the dentist?

My Dr is good, but he is expensive (I think) I don%26#039;t have dental insurance and am looking for a less expensive office. My last visit I was in the chair for less than 1/2 hour and my bill was 165$ this seems like rape to me.

The work was performed by a hygienist and it included a literally 45 second exam by the Dr.

What is the average price for a cleaning, and can anyone recommend a cheaper alternative in the Grand Rapids, Holland area of Michigan?

Thanks

What is the average price for a teeth cleaning session at the dentist?
it all depends where you are %26amp; where you are getting it done.
Reply:I am in Cincinnati Ohio

Our prices for an exam and cleaning are $110.00

X-rays would be an additional cost.

Our prices are middle of the road.
Reply:if you go to a dental school in your area it will be much cheaper, I think the average teeth cleaning there is about $90, but the only problem is that you have to pay with your time.
Reply:It can vary from dentist to dentist. I was like you too, wondering if I payed to much, until I found the affordable plan I have been searching for. I signed up online over 3 years ago and has saved me thousands of dollars nationwide. From Root canals, extractions, cleanings etc..I would encourage you to visit this website.

Very specific dr notes?

Could anyone tell me what these mean? I was just lookinmg at my notes online from today%26#039;s visit

General: Pt appears in NAD

Ears: TMs with nl landmarks.

Nose: Swollen, boggy mucous membranes with mucopurulent discharge

Face: sinus tenderness to palpation

Mouth: Teeth, gums, tongue, soft palette- WNL, pharynx mildly erythematous with purulent post nasal drip, no exudates

Neck: Supple, shoddy cervical adenopathy.

Chest: CTA, no wheeze

Heart: RRR, no murmurs, rubs or gallops

Very specific dr notes?
General: Patient appears in no acute distress

Ears: Tympanic membranes (eardrums) with normal landmarks

Nose: Swollen, Boggy mucous membranes with mucopurulent discharge (you have a runny nose)

Mouth: Teeth, gums, tongue, soft palette within normal limits, pharynx (back of the throat) mildly erythemrtous (reddened) with purulent post nasal drip, no exudates (runny nose is running down the throat)

Neck: Supple (flexible), shoddy (small but palpable - probably fighting an infection) cervical (along the neck) adenopathy (enlarged) - just means that your lymph nodes along the side of you neck are slightly enlarged probably because your body is fighting an infection

Chest: Clear to ausculation (listening with a stethoscope), no wheeze (an abnormal sound that is an obstructed small airway, makes a whistling sound)

Heart: regular rate and rhythm, no murmurs (caused by faulty heart valves), no rubs (noise made when lung structures rub together) and no gallops (irregular heart sound)

All together this exam reveals a possible sinus infection, possibly viral, causing your sinuses to produce excess mucous that is running down the throat. This can cause sinus pain and pressure as well as a sore throat. Your lymph nodes are slightly enlarged because your body is fighting the infection. Otherwise your exam is perfectly normal. Drink plenty of fluids to thin the secretions, get plenty of rest to let your body fight the infection and recover, you can run a humidifier to moisten secretions, and if you have no other health problems you could take an over the counter cold or sinus medicine. You may want to ask the pharmacist for a medication with a decongestant in it. These are over the counter but are regulated by the pharmacy because they have been abused by some people in the past. Hope you get to feeling better!

For a Dr. . What could be wrong?.. i have abdominal and testical discofort?
You need to see a physician as soon as possible. You are definitely sick. You have a fever, low grade, abdominal pain, fatigue, and discomfort in your testicles. You could have a Prostate infection or some other malady. The problem is that it is not going to get any better if you continue to ignore it. If you are afraid of the cost of getting appropriate care...go to a Medical School Clinic that might be near your home or go to a County or General Health facility in your community. Whatever you do , do not continue to just let the problem simmer. The longer you wait, the sicker you will be and the more likely that it will be increasingly difficult to treat your illness.
Reply:No doctor will give a diagnosis like that. Go and see one.

Help my poor cat had eight teeth pulled yesterday. she looks like she's in pain?

I just want to know if there is anything I can do for her? She is so unhappy and the dr. didn%26#039;t give her any pain med%26#039;s just antibiotics. My mom said maybe I could put some Lavender Oil under her lil%26#039; blanket but I don%26#039;t want to make her more nauseous. I%26#039;m waking for the dr. to call but she doesn%26#039;t seem to think that my cat feels pain when I give her Insuline twice a day and I know it hurts her! Please Help!

Help my poor cat had eight teeth pulled yesterday. she looks like she%26#039;s in pain?
No Tylenol, it%26#039;s poisonous to animals. If she is diabetic I would definitely consult the vet about pain meds. Surely they can give her something.
Reply:Poor kitty. OMG. I feel so sorry for her. Why don%26#039;t you call the vet and see if it%26#039;s ok to give her a tylenol? If it is I would go get her the kind for infants because it is liquid. Just send someone to get it for you because you don%26#039;t need to leave her there by herself.
Reply:ah poor kitty um can%26#039;t u ask a different vet to give u some pain killer or something?thats all i can think of.
Reply:You need to demand pain meds for your cat from your vet. And when this crisis is over, I would suggest you shop around for a new vet. I have had both diabetic and non-diabetic kitties that had tooth extractions. My Vet sent us home with pain meds and antibiotics as a matter of course.
Reply:Do not give her anything that is for humans. Human meds are not for animals. I was told that Tylenol will kill a cat.

To your question can cats feel pain. Yes....and they need a pain reliever from the vets. I am so surprised that you vet didn%26#039;t give you something for her.

I have a cat with diabetes also and I give a shot twice a day. I give her a treat right after the shot so she puts up with the discomfort. I have a cat that had an operation recently and the vet gave her pain meds.

I think I would look for a different vet. One with some consideration for the comfort of your pet.

Good luck!
Reply:I would call the vet back up and ream him out. How humane is it to pull 8 teeth and not give the damn cat medicine? That%26#039;s horrible. Call them up and demand pain meds, or you%26#039;re going to turn them in for animal abuse.
Reply:Don%26#039;t ask the Vet - TELL the Vet to give/recommend something!

Wisdom teeth extraction eight days ago. Still in pain!?

Dr. checked yesterday, said looked good. I%26#039;ve been taking Motrin 600. At first it worked well, but now it%26#039;s almost as if I am building up a tolerance or something? Took one 1 1/2 hours ago, and still throbbing pain. Help!

Wisdom teeth extraction eight days ago. Still in pain!?
You could be getting a dry socket...I heard those hurt!!
Reply:You didn%26#039;t get hydrocodone? That%26#039;s pretty much standard for stuff like that...trust me it helps.

*edit: If the surgery was pretty recent you should stay on the Vicodin but if its been more than a couple weeks or so I%26#039;d say you should get that checked out.
Reply:You might have a dry socket. Did you drink out of a straw or smoke after the extraction?
Reply:When I got mine out I had the same problem, I double the dose and try to take some sleeping pills
Reply:you only got Motrin 600?! tell Dr. you need some percocet or vicodin or something!

also, you might have dry sockets. that%26#039;s the WORST. tell him you have dry sockets.
Reply:piece of your tooth could stay inside of your jar. visit a doctor.
Reply:Some people experience pain more than others.

Try not laying down so that there is good blood flow to your face. Put some ice on your face for no more than 10 min, at a time every half hour.

You might need more than Mortrin. Call your doc and ask.
Reply:learn to tolerate pain
Reply:It is normal to still be in pain. Do you have anything stronger than Motrin? Make sure you are using the surynge with water to clean out the area after you eat anything. Dry-socket can be dangerous and it is definitely disguisting and painful. Make sure to have your doctor take a look. Otherwise, the pain should subside soon.
Reply:maybe u should go see the dentist or something!if its your gums there just probably still soar from the birth of teeth, lol!

know if its your teeth know there%26#039;s got to be a problem!

so if i were you go to the dentist!
Reply:get oragell and put some on the wound it will numb it
Reply:I was given Vicodin (acetaminophen and hydrocodone). never felt a thing until I got an infection. and obviously you don%26#039;t have one of those or your dentist would have seen that. I take it you weren%26#039;t given that? wow. that is unreal. talk to your doctor about that. you should have been given some form of Vicodin unless you%26#039;re allergic to something in it.
Reply:i got my wisdom teeth pulled in july so i know what you are feeling. my teeth felt ok with the pills they gave me for the first few days but after that it seemed like nothing could numb the pain. i believe this is caused by the fact that the local anaesthetic they used during the surgery is wearing off. my teeth hurt for months after the procedure but..... everyone heals at different rates. still don%26#039;t worry, after eight days it would be very strange if you were NOT in pain. so hang in there hun, and try not to up your meds to help with the pain becuase your body will build up a tolorence eventually. ice cream!
Reply:Wait a week %26amp; all should be well.
Reply:I got mine pulled about a year ago, and one extra, because they were so large the holes are just healing up, but when weather comes in it still hurts alot. My dentist prescribed vicaden for me though and actually refilled the prescription, because they were so large and almost melded to my jaw bone. Look in the mirror with a flashlight and small mirror. Do you still see clots? If so its good, it means no dry socket. If not what was explained to me is santize a pin, this was by the dentist, scrap the inside of the socket until it starts bleeding, than rinse immediately with water and bite down on some gauze. Have you tried tylenol also. Rotate the two out it will help, and call and see if they can prescribe something stronger. Cry, don%26#039;t try to be tough let them know you are in pain!!!!! Another thing you can try is the Panda licorice candies. Don%26#039;t chew on them suck, they%26#039;re in the health food section of most grocery stores. Licorice naturally numbes and drink some green tea to help keep your mouth clean. It will also help with the pain.

Wisdom Teeth?

What can I do to relieve the pain until I get into the Dr. to schedule to have them removed?

Wisdom Teeth?
Best thing is advil or tylenol, not much you can do until they are removed. Its no fun trust me I know from experience but you will feel a whole lot better after you may look like a chipmunk for a couple of days but that will go away with time.

How does one treat a Class II malocclusion (overbite) with lower jaw crowding. The Dr said he may break my jaw

I have a Class II malocclusion with moderate-severe crowding in my front lower teeth, and jaw misalignment. Only my front teeth touch when I bite down, unless I force my jaw into an uncomfortable position, and I%26#039;m starting to have sensitivity problems with the teeth AND the jaw because they%26#039;re being ground into one another. My dentist said he could try braces and removing 2 teeth on top and 2 teeth on bottom, as well as a retainer, but he didn%26#039;t think that would be quite as effective as option #2. He said my lower jaw is too small and he may have to break it, let it heal so that it becomes slightly bigger, and then take care of the other issues. I%26#039;m confused, and I have to say, scared about option 2. Does that generally work? I%26#039;m willing to wear a retainer for as long as I need to (he said probably for the rest of the time I have my teeth, I%26#039;ll be wearing one at night). I%26#039;m 25 right now, and plan on getting started with either option in November.

Anyone with advice, please help.

How does one treat a Class II malocclusion (overbite) with lower jaw crowding. The Dr said he may break my jaw
Option #2 is the second choice for a reason. There are many cases in which the jaw has been broken to complete ortho therapy, with much success. It is not as bad as it sounds. But with the extractions and retainers, you also have a good shot of correcting your malocclussion. A bonded lingual retainer would also help keep your teeth in the proper position once your ortho therapy is complete.

Check with youe dentist to see if he/she has the software program that shows you what you%26#039;d look like with and without your jaw broken. He may nort have it as you have not heard of it up to now; but several orthodontists do have it.

Don%26#039;t worry, everything dental is mental. If you anticipate pain or problems with your treatment, you%26#039;ll psych yourself out! Just relax, I%26#039;m sure you%26#039;ll be fine!
Reply:With posterior open bite and jaw displacement, overbite and overjet, looks like your case is quite complicated. As you are over the age of puberty, the most ideal treament option which yield satisfactory result would be a jaw surgery. Of course option #1 works, but as your orthodontist said, it may be not as effective as option #2. Now, I understand your fear for option #2. Before you go for jaw surgery, it is important for you to understand the risks of this procedure. There are several complications that you may endure following a jaw surgery, such as swelling, bruising, limited mouth opening, paraesthesia (tingling sensation), pain (but this can be controlled by painkiller). These complications are only temporary and are the result of our body%26#039;s normal/physiological reaction towards injury. It is not as scary as you imagine, there are actually lots of people out there who have undergone jaw surgery with success. I believe the pros and cons of each option will be explained to you further by your orthodontist. However, it is up to you to make the last decision. Whichever options you go for, i wish you all the best. :) The most important thing is to be happy with your decision.

When is the earliest a Dr. would induce?

I need oral surgery, I have my wisdom teeth coming in and pushing all my other teeth forward and not only is it killing my mouth it%26#039;s also causing muscle contractions in my neck and up throughout my head. They can%26#039;t do the surgery while I%26#039;m pregnant. I%26#039;m 24 weeks and I know that 36 weeks is about the safest. Has anyone else had to go through this? I can%26#039;t deal with it anymore!=(

When is the earliest a Dr. would induce?
The earliest my Ob would induce was 37 weeks.

Can the dentist remove the wisdom teeth--one or two at a time--safely using just Novocaine? I had 2 of my wisdom teeth done that way--and they were both impacted and abcessed--and I was fine after the procedure. I also had a root canal done when I was 16 weeks pregnant last year. They used just Novocaine--without epinephrine--because that%26#039;s all they could use. I was fine after that, too.

Get a second opinion from another dentist if you can. If your wisdom teeth are causing gum infections or abcesses, they might have to come out immediately for the safety of the baby you%26#039;re carrying. Dental hygeine is very important while pregnant because mouth infections can actually threaten your pregnancy.

If the wisdom teeth extractions don%26#039;t have to be done right away, ask your dentist for some painkillers that are safe to use while pregnant. Nobody should have to live with that kind of pain for 13 weeks.
Reply:Every doctor is different. This is really a conversation you should have w/your doctor. I don%26#039;t think they%26#039;d induce before 36 weeks unless the baby was in danger.
Reply:the earilest a doctor will induce is 36 weeks anything before that you are at risk to have problems with the baby and they are more likely to be in a nicu.. I suggest you talk to your doctor or take tylenol to ease the pain and muscle spasms
Reply:Mine, not before a week of due date and actually induced me 3 days before just to be safe, but would never before a week unless a serious condition!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
Reply:well iam going to put you on top friend becaues we need to talk girl ! lol
Reply:I had dental work done when I was pregnant. I had to get a root canal done. It was killing me and it was infected.

37 weeks is considered full term - anything before that is a preemie.

I would talk to your doctor and your dentist - have them talk together and see if you can%26#039;t work out a temporary fix until you deliver. It sucks being in pain and you can%26#039;t do anything about it! Trust me, I know.
Reply:Why cant you have surgery while pregnant? if your willing to have your baby so early why not the other evil your baby has a better chance of survival going full term
Reply:I would say about 35-39 weeks is the soonest they would do that. And since your at 24 weeks you need to talk to your doctor about what you can do for the pain.Cause that may throw into early labor.
Reply:Talk to your OB and see if they will approve the dental procedure. My OB okayed some dental work while I was pregnant. They insisted that any x-rays be done with a lead vest over my belly and that all anesthetic be local only. Getting your wisdom teeth removed without general anesthetic can be a pain, but it is done all the time. Ask your OB about it. Plus, cutting wisdom teeth can lead to gum infections that aren%26#039;t good while you%26#039;re pregnant. Most dentists will not do any dental work while you%26#039;re pregnant without the consent of your OB.
Reply:I feel for you, I had to have a wisdom tooth cut out the week before my son was born for the same reasons as you with just the ordinary Novocaine injection.

The Obs that I am acquainted with would not induce before 38 weeks without it was a dire emergency .Best to check with your OB and get their opinion. Everyday that baby is in its momma gives it another day to gain strength and be a healthier baby. Good Luck
Reply:i would say 38 weeks. my doc even did an amnio to make sure his lungs were developed at 38 weeks, and i had to ask 4 different docs in the practice before i found one who would! they dont like to induce more than 1 week early, unless baby or mom is in eminent danger. good luck hon!!

Dr. Sam...anyone is this normal??

I had 4 wisdom teeth extracted on friday...lower right was abscessed and no antibiotcs he just pulled it..is this safe? and now the holes look kinda dark brown/red with white stuff...I feel good and little sore but okay...does this mean I am healing or infection of some kind?? thanks a bunch

Dr. Sam...anyone is this normal??
I%26#039;m not Dr. Sam, but maybe I can help until he sees your question:

Not every abscess needs antibiotics. Were you swollen and on antibiotics before the extraction? Antibiotics are given to reduce swelling and/or reduce %26amp; localize infection before the extraction is done (large abcess) or to help prevent post-op infections when a lot of bone has to be removed in order to extract the tooth. It is not uncommon to see evidence of infection when you extract a tooth. Usually, you can get most or all of it out during the extraction. Again, antibiotics would be indicated if there was concern about residual infection.

As for the brown/red/white stuff: it sounds like some clotting, some healing(red/brown), and some sloughing(white). As new tissue is formed during healing, the old tissus sloughs off.

It sounds like you%26#039;re healing.
Reply:Sorry I missed your question, but idforya and Robert both gave a good answer. Report It

Reply:This is normal. Mine were pulled with no meds either. The holes aredark red/brown because thats the color of the blood clotting so it can heal. The white does not sound good though. You should try to brush or just visit the dentist because white is usually not good....but that may just be the build up because you can%26#039;t brush there.

Dr. Sam, advice needed please?

How bad are wisdom teeth to remove?

do you have an email address I can contact you at? You can IM it to me if you like (eendje1990).

Dr. Sam, advice needed please?
I was thirteen when i had all of mine removed at the same time. If you have a good dentist you will have no worries. Just make sure you don%26#039;t have any aspirin based pain killers. These will thin your blood and make you bleed more. Good luck
Reply:When people ask for encouragement about getting their wisdom teeth out, I like to share this story about my three children.

I removed two of my older daughter%26#039;s wisdom teeth at 2:00 in the afternoon and told her to go home and lie down until dinner time. Before I got home, she had already left for the mall! I was rather angry, because I figured that she%26#039;d be moaning all night long and asking me what to do for the pain. Much to my happy surprise, she seemed just fine. She said that she waited until the numbness started to go away and she felt pretty good, so she decided to get up and go.

Same thing with my son. We were actually headed home from a drum lesson and he asked if we could stop in the office to check out the sore place in his mouth. It turned out to be an erupting wisdom tooth. He asked if I felt like taking it out right then, so I did. (I was afraid he might change his mind if he thought about it overnight.) His mom didn%26#039;t even know he had a wisdom tooth taken out until he had to take the gauze out of his mouth to eat dinner. His uppers were both kind of difficult and he had trouble healing with one of them (sinus involvement), but that didn%26#039;t last for more than 3 or 4 days.

With my third child, I took her to the oral surgeon, because the roots were sort of close to the nerve and _I_ didn%26#039;t want to be the one to cause her any trouble if things got difficult. She had nitrous oxide and little bit of iv sedation and had all four removed at once. I wanted to get her right home, but she asked me to stop off at the mall before we went home. She insisted that she was okay. Instead of going home and lying down, she walked through the mall. Yes, she was biting on her gauze packs (in the mall!), but still she was a lot more active than I would recommend. She had no trouble at all healing. I think she went out that night, too. (It was 1999, so I don%26#039;t remember the details.)

I%26#039;m not saying that they are ALL like this, but there are wisdom teeth and then there are w*!`S^D@m TEETH!!! I always say that wisdom teeth (and root canals, by the way) are like teenagers. At least 90% are no trouble at all, but everybody talks about the bad ones.

Dr Frank: Alternative medicine -v- conventional medicine?

A friend of mine recently went to see her GP about her aching jaw. It became apparent that it was muscular ache due to the grinding of teeth at night. The GP prescribed her a muscle rub and told her to use it regularly and it would help relieve any discomfort. Upon reading the ingredients in the lotion, I found that all the ingredients in the lotion were none other than the essential oils that I use regularly on my patients when carrying out Aromatherapy treatments. If GP%26#039;s are happily prescribing medication containing essential oils and herbal extracts etc, does this not prove that Alternative medicine is just as effective as conventional?

Dr Frank: Alternative medicine -v- conventional medicine?
And of course - Dr Frank is an expert on both sides of this question!! I%26#039;m not an expert on either but have vast experience of both %26amp; am refreshed when GPs are open minded enough to embrace something that might swing away from their mainstream. Blinkers off %26amp; remember their Hippocratic oath - the one that says about not harming people (every drug in the BNF has potential harmful side effects!). Of course, one has to bear in mind that even complementary therapies can be unsafe in untrained hands so if conventional doctors set out with the belief that it%26#039;s safe because %26quot;there%26#039;s nothing in it%26quot; they are sorely mistaken. Lots of complementary therapies can be very dangerous in the wrong hands. They shouldn%26#039;t %26quot;dabble%26quot; anymore than Joe public should.

In my experience as a Homoeopath, I am dealing with serious pathology every day - most patients end up with an alternative practitioner because conventional medicine has not helped them - or made them worse. My results are very good - the vast majority see improvements very quickly %26amp; continue with the healing process until many are cured.

It is true that some conventional drugs are based on natural materials but they are synthesised %26amp; contain many other dangerous ingredients so that is a very poor arguement. It%26#039;s not a competition - conventional medicine has it%26#039;s place - and that is in absolute emergency situations I believe. The vast majority of illnesses can be very well treated with complementary therapies - don%26#039;t knock it until you%26#039;ve tried it!!
Reply:Well, if they put it in a jacket and sell it with the BMA%26#039;s blessing the pharmaceuticals can make some money to keep their shareholders happy.

The main reason the western medicine establishment don%26#039;t like %26#039;natural%26#039; is because %26#039;natural%26#039; can not be patented.

The day they can patent THC in cannabis is the day it will become a truly legal drug i reckon but as it stand and it was legalized now the only ones that would benefit would be the food or tobacco industries. And the pharmaceuticals loosing out is not on now innit?
Reply:Many convential medicines have herbal ingredients. It%26#039;s not a competition you know.
Reply:indeed, but i think the wording itself should be the other way round, and chemistry polutes our organisms, natural remedy is much, much better for you because there is no chemical, the only problem with as you call it alternative is that becuse people don%26#039;t know the right mixtures. so go for the unadultered one.
Reply:I would suggest that you consult a Homeopathic Physician.
Reply:Nope! I%26#039;m a firm supporter of herbs in medicine. Probably the active ingredients are similar to what you use because it works. I%26#039;m guessing they were menthol/peppermint, wintergreen with salicylic acid, or have capsicum in it.

If you check the pharmaceuticals of a hundred years ago, you%26#039;ll find they had many herbs in the book for diseases. But, new things came along along with treatments and cures for diseases that before were then incurable.

Unfortunately, the trend was to rid the pharmaceuticals of all herbal remedies, thus, loosing a great deal of history and potential cures were lost for a time or all time. Today, the West is rediscovering these cures and the benefits of Chinese medicine cures.

There%26#039;s a difference between aromatherapy and mainstream medicine. A good doctor well versed in homoeopathy chooses which is best for the patient, traditional herbs or modern medicines.

A well versed patient checks out if alternative methods are available for a cure, if the Rx medicine isn%26#039;t working. Or, sometimes seeks to combine it with the regular Rx medicine.

We can%26#039;t ignore the past. The more research that is done in these areas, the more we find that these ancient herbs and cures contain some very modernistic drugs.
Reply:Everyone has a right to choose Conventional or Alternative Medicine

A lot of these things do work our grandmothers would have used them

I think for minor things yes but i think a serious illness should be treated by Conventional medicine because they are finding cures all the time
Reply:Alternative medicine used to be conventional medicine before the white lab coat was invented.
Reply:Generally prescribing advice given to GPs, from the specialists that advise them, is not to use local rubs at all. They are however often given as relatively cheap placebos.

Thus in this case I would have neither used a conventional rub, non-steroidal or rubifacient, nor a herbal one, since neither work!

In answer to the more general question, I, like the vast majority of GPs, will tend to follow conventional and scientific prescribing advice.

The rational arguments for using homeoopathic medication is it is at least harmless and makes a useful placebo. With herbal remedies one cannot even be sure of that!
Reply:Off the top of my head I can think of many approaches to your aching jaw that may be at least as good as that rub, and few of them are %26#039;conventional%26#039;. Not knocking aromatherapy at all!

It really is not a competition but the attitude of many conventional medics does not encourage us to work together for the benefit of the one that matters - that is the one who is suffering. There are as many bigots in natural medicine as there are in orthodox and my advice is: get on with the job and stop bothering about it.

If the whole business of wanting to %26#039;prove%26#039; that natural medicine works is important to someone I would question where that%26#039;s coming from. To me, a therapist intent on proving this point is as insecure within themselves as the docs and %26#039;scientists%26#039; are that rubbish natural medicine.

When i started in the profession in 1976 it was a very big issue and there was the feeling we had to fight our corner at every turn. Since then the sheer weight of numbers of those successfully and confidently seeing natural medical practitioners has swung everything around.

The work stands up for itself; no need to defend or stand up for it. The best practitioner of any kind is one who works on his/herself to become a clearer vehicle for the job.

If docs are not prepared to work with me for the good of the patient, as i am with them, that%26#039;s everyone%26#039;s loss. It saddens me, but I have to get on with it, and entering into conflict only makes matters worse.

In my time I have had successful professional relationships with many docs, though sadly these are in the minority. It%26#039;s sometimes necessary to avail ourselves of the healing from both approaches.

It is a pity that sometimes practitioners get confused about each other%26#039;s disciplines as this confusion ultimately harms the patient; eg, that homoeopathy is harmless - it isn%26#039;t if used incorrectly. Ditto that natural practitioners occasionally diagnose outside their speciality, and docs can be stuck in ignorant opinions of other disciplines. I wish there was a free flow of discussion without prejudice, but that isn%26#039;t human nature.

The advantage of natural medicine used holistically is that it will treat the person, not just the symptom; there is often little understanding of this process in natural medicine let alone orthodox. This is a pity because it is the greatest gift natural medicine has to offer.

Alternative medicine has nothing to prove, it%26#039;s the practitioners of that and orthodox medicine who sometimes think it has.
Reply:yes indeed herbal medicine is just as effective as conventional medicine and even better in some cases and vice versa.alternative medicines such as aromatherapy can assist the patients well bien in both types of medicines.conventional medicine does come from nature it is scientifically restructured in most medicines or even left naturally in some.however herbs in there pure state are a better medicine because it has eliminating properties that enhance health holistically.this is the difference between the two medicines , the principals are the same, treating a condition,or disease with the correct medicine. In alternative medicine we believe that disease is born out of putrification and fermentation left too long in the system, and herbal medicine eliminates this.conventional doctors claim they do not know the reasons behind many diseases they simply treat them when they arrive.for this reason alone herbal medicine is by far superior.
Reply:No, they are not at all effective in fact they can be dangerous. What would you suggest giving someone with pneumonia or septicaemia then? Basil, or Aloe Vera? Do you think that would cure it?

Dr Hulda Clarks Protocol for HIV/AIDS cure. For people who have used this ONLY and had success ONLY!?

Want to know if you followed the protocol EXACTLY?! I find extracting teeth a little over the top, but is this absolutely necessary?! and do you really need the Zapper, I mean, if so, I will purchase one, but if you don%26#039;t really need it and the herbs are more than sufficient, I%26#039;d rather do this. Would also like to hear from those who have also used Colloidal Silver as well as the protocol or by it%26#039;s self.

She does have the secret to the cure. When each of her patients die, the virus dies also. Cured!

Dr, Sam can u answer this one?

if a patient comes to you with white spots on his teeth, now they could be caries or fluorosis, how do u establish which one it is??

Dr, Sam can u answer this one?
%26quot;We can tell.%26quot; Fluorosis still exists, usually due to incorrect dosing prescribed by antiquated physicians. The dosing was changed in about 1975 or earlier, but it%26#039;s a %26quot;minor%26quot; item, so %26quot;real doctors%26quot; didn%26#039;t all pay attention. It can also happen as a result of inconsistent water usage or errors in municipal water supplies.

Fluorosis is HARD tooth structure that is generally white in color. In more extreme cases, it is sort of butterscotch and in the worst cases, it will actually make pits on the enamel. The key thing is that it is hard to the touch of an instrument. The location and pattern are different from typical incipient decay.

Incipient carious lesions are chalky white opaque areas on the teeth, generally right along the gum line. They would look the same in between your teeth, but they are hidden from view. The surface texture is definitely softer than normal tooth structure, even though you may not be able to penetrate the surface with an instrument.

These days, electronic caries detecting devices (Diagnodent and others) can be used to distinguish the difference if there is any question, although a dentist generally can tell from experience which is which.
Reply:I am not Dr. Sam nor am I a Dentist but white spots on the teeth as opposed to the gums may be from problems other than dental caries or fluorosis (as you spell this correctly I wonder if you have some background in dentistry). Caries generally do not appear as white spots on the teeth. Fluorosis has been uncommon for some time in the US. There are other conditions some of which are serious which may cause this and the only way to know is to see a Dentist.

Dr oz whats up with bacteria constantly in the body?

i have this problem with my body producing bacteria and odor since 1999 and not one doctor i have been to can tell me what is going on. last month i found out i have bacteria on my eyelids and this is the last draw for me. i do have a lot of allergies, enviroment as well as food and i am fed up with my body controling me and me not controling my body. it is really causing me a lot of sadness because no one can tell anything. thats 8 years of torture for me. i isolate a lot because of the odors. i would shower and brush my teeth 100 times a day if i could. at times i feel out of control with trying too solve my own issue. so please help!!

Dr oz whats up with bacteria constantly in the body?
Do some research on candida albicans, it is a yeast infection in your intestines, vagina and it can invade you mouth and teeth. It has a ton of side effects and might be causing your problem.

I have done a colon cleanse, am taking a large amount of vitamins and supplements. My mouth feels much much better, not icky and slimy every time I wake up.

Every day I drink, 1/2 cup of prune juice, aloe Vera juice and cranberry concentrate. Prune juice is for good bowel activity, aloe Vera is for upper digestion and the cranberry is for the urinary tract.

What you eat is what produces odors. Try eating very lean and lots of fluids to flush your system. Are you overweight at all?

If so that could be a real causal factor.

Good luck in getting your problem solved.
Reply:Normally sweat is produced to regulate the temperature of the body, but excessive sweating and body odor may be due to stress or medication . Take bath with an antibacterial soap at least once a day, drink plenty of water and eat fresh fruits and vegetables. More details and remedies at the link below.

Quick question about invisalign, DR please?

I am 19, I have been to orthodontist many times, but yea i ddint loose all my baby teeth until i was like 16 and it took them a while to come in. I am actually traveling all the time, and very involved in international business. I will be switching between USA and Brasil very frequently but I do want to get the whole teeth thing straighten before I am much older. I do not want the traditional metal braces, and since money is no barrier for me any kind of treatment would work that will provide the fastest and best results. Doctors are humans and I have read many doctors blogs some say its great, some say its horrible, its like when i am in miami the sun is good for you, get lots, when in NYC stay away it will kill you, so yea I would like a few reliable answers and be informed about any other kinds of treatments, retainers etc.

Quick question about invisalign, DR please?
With todays advance dental pracitices, braces can me made less and less noticable. Invisaline is great, I do reccomend it. I myself had it, and I have several patients who%26#039;ve had it and been greatly pleased with the outcome. It requires more frequent visits to the Dentist for new series of trays.
Reply:Ceramic braces may be a wise option. They would be faster than invasilign, and able to be more accurate in the final positioning. If they are %26quot;not very bad%26quot; like you have stated, then it may only take 6-8 months of braces. Everyone is different, and a diagnosis can never be made over the Internet. Only after multiple radiographs, measurements, and careful evaluation can a %26quot;best option%26quot; be recommended.

First course of action would be to select a Dentist you trust. Then begin diagnostic work up.
Reply:In comparison to metal braces, the ceramic braces provide more or less the same results and are less visible. Beyond this I would like to differ from Chensona above. You have to choose one type, fast-results-braces or not-noticeable-braces. Since you do not have heavily crooked teeth and your main consideration is esthetically straight teeth, I would vote Invisalign for you irrespectively that it may take more time to achieve result. It is for the reason that while Invisalign is doing it%26#039;s job, no one will notice them on your teeth. If you are looking for something faster than this, your answer would be in porcelain veneers/crowns.

My dog Dr.Jekyl and Mr. Hyde?

I adopted a Norwich Terrier mix from the humane society in June 2006. He was 6 months old at the time. I spent the entire summer training him and working with him. Six months later everything is going pretty well except he just gets NASTY sometimes, bears his teeth and snaps at me. When we come in from walks and I go to wipe his feet off he gets like this and if I go to move him over on the bed (he inches over in the night till I have no more room) he%26#039;ll growl and get mean then too. He has also, in the morning before I leave for work crawled in my laundry basket and sits there and growls and shows his teeth when I try to pick him up out of the basket. It%26#039;s just like something in him snaps because 90% of the time he%26#039;s a great dog. Another thing he does that%26#039;s weird...he%26#039;ll cross over a bridge on our walks but won%26#039;t walk back over it when we are returning home. I have to pick him up and carry him over it. Can anyone give me insight??

My dog Dr.Jekyl and Mr. Hyde?
The dog thinks he%26#039;s boss. First, make him earn his privileges. Don%26#039;t let him sleep on the bed. (I%26#039;m someone who%26#039;s dogs do sleep on the bed, but this dog is challenging you so you need to withdraw some privileges and this is one.) When he bares his teeth at you or growls, tell him %26quot;no!!%26quot; very firmly and finish what you%26#039;re doing. You can%26#039;t let him get away with growling at you even one time - it%26#039;s going to be harder now because he%26#039;s been doing it for so long. You might also want to work with him in obedience. It should instill some confidence in him, help him accept you as his leader, which should curtail his growling.

If he won%26#039;t walk back over the bridge, don%26#039;t pick him up. You%26#039;ve taught him that he can get you to carry him. It may take you some time, but keep him walking, encourage him, praise him for walking, give him a treat, whatever it takes, he%26#039;ll catch on if you don%26#039;t give in to him.
Reply:i think it%26#039;s best to consult a professional for this. It seems like he%26#039;s %26quot;snapping%26quot; too often.
Reply:my daughter had a dog like that. the vet said it could be from inbreeding. just let the dog know you love him.when he %26quot;acts up%26quot; just put him by himself until this action passes. don%26#039;t hit the dog, just tell him he is acting bad and put him in %26quot;time out%26quot;.
Reply:all terriers are a bit moody. if i were you i would talk to the Vet and see if they can suggest something for you to try.
Reply:Nothing In Life Is Free

Does your dog:

Get on the furniture and refuse to get off?

Nudge your hand, insisting on being petted or played with?

Refuse to come when called?

Defend its food bowl or toys from you?

%26quot;Nothing in life is free%26quot; can help. %26quot;Nothing in life is free%26quot; is not a magic pill that will solve a specific behavior problem; rather it’s a way of living with your dog that will help it behave better because it trusts and accepts you as its leader and is confident knowing its place in your family.

How To Practice %26quot;Nothing In Life Is Free:%26quot;

Using positive reinforcement methods, teach your dog a few commands and/or tricks. %26quot;Sit,%26quot; %26quot;Down%26quot; and %26quot;Stay%26quot; are useful commands and %26quot;Shake,%26quot; %26quot;Speak%26quot; and %26quot;Rollover%26quot; are fun tricks to teach your dog.Once your dog knows a few commands, you can begin to practice %26quot;nothing in life is free.%26quot; Before you give your dog anything (food, a treat, a walk, a pat on the head) it must first perform one of the commands it has learned. For example:

YOU:

YOUR DOG:

Put your dog’s leash on to go for a walk

Must sit until you’ve put the leash on

Feed your dog

Must lie down and stay until you’ve put the bowl down

Play a game of fetch after work

Must sit and shake hands each time you throw the toy

Rub your dog’s belly while watching TV

Must lie down and rollover before being petted

Once you’ve given the command, don’t give your dog what it wants until it does what you want. If it refuses to perform the command, walk away, come back a few minutes later and start again. If your dog refuses to obey the command, be patient and remember that eventually it will have to obey your command in order to get what it wants.

Make sure your dog knows the command well and understands what you want before you begin practicing %26quot;nothing in life is free.%26quot;

The Benefits Of This Technique

Most dogs assume a neutral or submissive role toward people, but some dogs will challenge their owners for dominance. Requiring a dominant dog to work for everything it wants is a safe and non-confrontational way to establish control.

Dogs who may never display aggressive behavior such as growling, snarling, or snapping, may still manage to manipulate you. These dogs may display affectionate, though %26quot;pushy%26quot; behavior, such as nudging your hand to be petted or %26quot;worming%26quot; its way on to the furniture in order to be close to you. This technique gently reminds the %26quot;pushy%26quot; dog that it must abide by your rules.

Obeying commands helps build a fearful dog’s confidence; having a strong leader and knowing its place in the hierarchy helps to make the submissive dog feel more secure.

Why This Technique Works

Animals that live in groups, like dogs, establish a social structure within the group called a dominance hierarchy. This dominance hierarchy serves to maintain order, reduce conflict and promote cooperation among pack members. In order for your home to be a safe and happy place for pets and people, it’s best that the humans in the household assume the highest positions in the dominance hierarchy.

Practicing %26quot;nothing in life is free%26quot; effectively and gently communicates to your dog that its position in the hierarchy is subordinate to yours. From your dog’s point of view, children also have a place in this hierarchy. Because children are small and can get down on the dog’s level to play, dogs often consider them to be playmates, rather than superiors. With the supervision of an adult, it’s a good idea to encourage children in the household (aged eight and over) to also practice %26quot;nothing in life is free%26quot; with your dog.
Reply:Sounds like your dog is in charge and not you. Are you continuing his training? Just as with anything you use it or loose it. Also if your trainer did not teach you this, you need to make the “nothing in life is free” rule. This means he must perform a desired behavior before getting anything. For example in the morning and at night my dog must go to his rug, sit, lay down and stay until released to eat. If he gets up while I am getting his food or water, I redirect him to he place and make him do it over again until I release him. If he wants to be petted, he must sit. If he wants a treat he must do a trick. If he needs to go out he must go to the door and sit until someone lets him out. Everything he wants he has to do something for it but when he does a desired behavior it is reinforced by praise and or treats. This is great for making sure there is no mistake you are the boss. Also, you need to make him sleep on the floor. This is going to be hard for both of you I am sure but take him and get him a nice bed of his own to sleep in your room. If he tries to get up on the bed make him get down and back on to his bed (we call ours his ‘night-night’) eventually you can train him to go there for bed each night. As for the bridge thing, take him for a walk when you have some extra time to get this practice in motion, but simple bring some treats along with you and once you get to the bridge and he will no longer walk go as far in-front of him as you can and call his name with one of his favorite treats in your hand next to your side where he will have to come and get it. Repeat this until he crosses the bridge moving in front of him father each time. Once he can cross the bridge completely with out being coached give him a treat and praise for his good deed. Do this a few more times until it becomes habit and then do it occasionally for reinforcement of the desired behavior. Also sometime a good old stare down works to determine who is boss, I hold my dogs head firmly but not tight and look him straight in the eye nose to nose when he is being stubborn and not doing as he should. Eventually he will sigh and loosen his tension, this means I won. It might sound a bit barbaric but I have a 95 lbs American Bulldog and can never give him the upper hand or let him feel he is the boss so he is regularly trained because if he “snipped” at me he could do some serious damage. He is a great dog and all the training and work I have done is really paid off, it just takes time and a firm, but fair hand. Just don’t expect to see any results over night and keep working with him and in a few months things should straighten themselves out. Best of luck!

Everyone on Dr Phil/Oprah?

always have such perfect skin and teeth. Have you noticed? Even the scummiest people have perfect white teeth and flawless skin. Do they require cosmetic dentistry prior to allowing guests on? Even the audience members have perfect white smiles.

Everyone on Dr Phil/Oprah?
omgosh yes! i was thinking about asking this question too! i%26#039;ve notice in the clips the people like alright, or good sometimes, and then when they come out on the show they%26#039;re like extremely gorgeous. they look the opposite of what they looked like in the preview clip. you can always tell that oprah%26#039;s guest are wearing the same makeup. its weird......
Reply:Blame it on the bright lights. They make everyone look whiter.
Reply:they change the lighting ,

id love white teeth like that

haha .,

Reply:Besides fixing their hair and make-up, I think they give them decent clothes to wear. I didn%26#039;t notice about the teeth, but will take a look next time.
Reply:Yeah! There was a show on that, but they said the audience came as is. If you were going to be in the audience wouldn%26#039;t you want to look nice.
Reply:Good catch! I never noticed that before, maybe they are just actors.........
Reply:I do think that Dr Phils wife has to have had those dental veneers. When they show her gazing lovingly at him her teeth are too perfect. And you know Oprah and Dr Phil have on tons of make-up, so the guests get to use their make-up artists too. I know what you mean though, like the video of the troubled family shot at their home they all look normal and then they get on stage and look like celebrities, pefect hair, nice clothes, etc.
Reply:they must do something

Your opinion of confirmation calls?

Our office is implementing a new system for %26quot;confirming%26quot; dental hygiene appointments which are generally scheduled 6 months in advance. Which of the following do you think would work the best? We are trying to decrease last minute/day of cancellations.

1) Two days prior......This is Cherie calling from ABC Dental. This is a courtesy call to remind you of your 60 minute appointment with Dr. Tooth for Monday October 7th at 2:30pm. We look forward to seeing you then!

2) 1 week prior...... This is Cherie calling from ABC Dental. I am calling to verify your time commitment with Dr. Tooth on Monday October 7th at 2:30pm. We have reserved 60 minutes for you. Will you be here? (patients says yes) Great! Would you like a courtesy call a few days prior to your appointment?

3) 1 week prior.... same as above but replace %26quot;time commitment%26quot; with %26quot;appointment.%26quot;

****I appreciate your input****

Your opinion of confirmation calls?
I%26#039;ve been a schedule coordinator in the field for about 6 years and have found that a week ahead works well and then a reminder a day before.

1 week prior..This is Lila calling from ABC Dental. I wanted to make sure you have us on your calendar for your cleaning appt. scheduled for this next coming Monday, October 7th at 2:30pm. Great! May I confirm the appt now and would you like a reminder call the day before?

1 day before...This is Lila from ABC Dental calling to reconfirm your cleaning appt for tomorrow, Monday, October 7th at 2:30pm. Should you have any questions or concerns in regards to your appt. please give us a return call at 123-4567. Otherwise, we hope you have a good day and we look forward to seeing you at your appt tomorrow, Monday, October 7th at 2:30pm.

This dialogue has been working well for me..should they cancel when you call a week ahead, you have a whole week to fill the appt.

Hope this helps...
Reply:I would use script 1.

My DDS%26#039;s office call the day before and so does my MD%26#039;s office.
Reply:My dentist%26#039;s office calls me 2 working days prior to remind me (and I appreciate it as usually I have forgotten). She is quite accommodating as I sometimes have to re-schedule. I think that calling twice is using up more of your valuable time. I prefer to have it called an appointment... I have never heard of a %26#039;time commitment%26#039;
Reply:I like to get a call 2-3 days prior. I%26#039;ve usually forgotten the exact time or where, so it%26#039;s nice to get the reminder, but make sure it%26#039;s early enough so if I need to change it we have time to do so.

and appointment is better than time commitment (what an odd phrase!)
Reply:I have managed a dental office for 9 years now %26amp; what we find that works is we send out recall cards 2 weeks prior to the 6 mo appt %26amp; then call the day prior also!
Reply:Sending out reminder cards is good. can be costly but if your no show rate is more then 5% your ROI is well worth it. Is your staff making calls or are you using a computer ( there are several out there that are good. The reports that you get are great for tracking also. You can use the reports to verify if the phone number has changed, If your appts are made 6 months plus in advance people move, start to use cell phones vs a land line. This will give the staff a heads up if they need to make it a point to get a current phone number. I also like the idea of a reserved appt. A more patient friendly word or phrase along this line also might help for those that %26quot;blow off%26quot; the appt. Not realizing that if they do not show you have blocked out 60 minutes. Maybe something along the lines of Dr Tooth will see you at 10 on Monday might reiterate to the patient that if the doctor is expecting them they should make it a point to make the appt. Three days is a good time frame. Gives you a chance to fill the spot. Have a wait list available for those pts that can come in at a moments notice or for those pts that could not get in earlier. They can be called to fill in the cancellations
Reply:I like #1 so they can%26#039;t give you an excuse they forgot. Usually if you confirm a week early they always tend to forget. Also on their appt card you should have a note indicating a 24hr cancellation notice or charge will be applied.

Waived the first cancellation but make sure they are aware they will be charge for any subsequent no show.

Attn: Nebula D, Tomh311, joe, Angela DDS, Dr. Sam, Dr. TomBMW.M-3.M-5: Question Concerning Porcelain Crown!?

My appearance is very important 2 me and thus my only option is 2 get a natural-looking crown (as in tooth-colored). What r the pros and cons 4 porcelain-fused-to-metal vs. porcelain-fused-to-gold vs. all porcelain? Which of these would u recommend 4 a tooth that is towards the front of my mouth and used 4 tearing food (ex. sandwiches)?

Btw, I am very careful w/ my teeth and thus don%26#039;t chew very hard things anyway.

Oh, and please feel free to answer this question even if ur name isn%26#039;t mentioned above.

Attn: Nebula D, Tomh311, joe, Angela DDS, Dr. Sam, Dr. TomBMW.M-3.M-5: Question Concerning Porcelain Crown!?
IF there is enough tooth to work with, an all porcelain crown is the best for esthetics. They are quite satisfactory for strength also. You would be interested in getting an Empress, Lava or Procera crown. It might kind of freak your dentist out if you used the brand names, but I guess the information is out there. If your dentist wants some gold in the crown for any reason, maybe a Captek would work out okay. If strength is really a major concern, porcelain-fused-to-gold might be better than some of the other crowns I mentioned. You could have an all-porcelain margin where it would show. While a porcelain-fused-to-gold is generally regarded as having higher strength, there might be a bit of a problem masking out the metal and then the opacity of the inner layer of porcelain can kind of make the tooth look less life-like. Also, I think all three of the all-porcelain crowns I mentioned come with a five year warranty from any lab. Five years is no big deal as far as I am concerned, but at least it%26#039;s something. I have some Empress crowns that are in service for more than 10-12 years now, but that%26#039;s about as long as the product has been available. I see no reason to believe they will not work as long or longer than some of the aluminious porcelain crowns (%26quot;Old%26quot; style all-porcelain crowns) that I have had in place for 20, 25 or even 30 years now. I just did the front six for one of my assistants and, after seeing several different kinds of crowns, she asked for Empress, which I was pleased to do.
Reply:Okay. DO NOT get too hung up on a certain brand of crown, though. You might tell your dentist that you want an %26quot;all porcelain%26quot; crown like Lava or Empress and let him take it from there. Good luck. Report It

Any Advice from Dental Professionals...Dr Sam???

(second posting of this question)

I have had chronic and severe pain in my teeth on the right side for several years. In particular it seems to effect teeth #%26#039;s 4, 5, 6, 30, 27 and 24. I have gone to several dentists and have even had RCT done on #%26#039;s 5 and 30 but nothing seems to alleviate the pain.

All the radiographs I have ever had done never show any caries present on any of my teeth and there is no evidence of a TMJ disorder. Also I have had an occlusal adjustment on several occasions but it never seems to improve the problem.

Is there some systemic or perhaps chemical condition that could be causing this pain? Or could it be a case of damage to the nerves leading to these teeth and if so, is there a way to test for such?

I would very much appreciate any informative answer by a dental professional ....thank you.

Any Advice from Dental Professionals...Dr Sam???
Hi. I%26#039;ve been kind of spotty here lately, so I%26#039;m sorry I missed you previous post.

Without seeing you and your x-rays, it%26#039;s really not possible to say what is wrong.

I%26#039;d agree that #4-5-6 could actually be a sinus problem rather than a tooth problem, but I would not associate that with #24, 27 and 30.

I would consider it unlikely that there is some central nervous pathology, because the pain has skipped 25, 26, 28 and 29 - assuming that they are all present. Likewise, I do not know of any chemical conditions that would affect random teeth like this.

I would ask a few questions... Is there anything that makes the pain worse or better, such as hot, cold, or biting pressure? How long does the pain last when it occurs? Has it been getting worse over time or staying the same?

Again, I%26#039;m sorry not to provide much help, but the person (people?) who have been searching for the problem in person have not come up with anything and they know a lot more about your teeth than I do.
Reply:If it is truly all of the teeth in the upper and lower and NO dental source can be found, I would consider an evaluation by a neurologist for something affecting the nerve at a much more central location. Seriously. Report It

Reply:I don%26#039;t know which teeth are present and which are absent, but perhaps you are really enumerating all of your teeth on the affected side...? Report It

Reply:All teeth are present except #32 and 1. I have just had further dental work done to %26quot;correct%26quot; the pain and had fillings replaced on #%26#039;s 2,3,4 31,29 and a new crown placed on #30 which has had RCT (none of these teeth showed further caries BTW) Report It

Reply:The pain is still very present. It%26#039;s odd, when I wake up in the AM I am pain free but by 2 pm the whole right side of my jaw is throbbing...anyhow. I have an appointment scheduled with a neurologist next week and hope to get some good solid answers...thanks for your insight and information Report It

Reply:Sinus problems.
Reply:TRY A MASSAGE OR CHIROPRACTOR.
Reply:Ask for a referral to an endodontist or an oral surgeon. There are many things that can cause pain in the mouth or teeth. If there is absolutely nothing wrong with the teeth there are some possibilities such as a sinus problem (though your problems with your lower teeth would not be explained by this) or a neurologic issue such as a damaged nerve.
