Is having the dentist file down a tooth safe?

How safe is it for the dentist to file down your tooth? Is it common and safe? Or does it usually lead to problems?

I had an accident and a one front tooth is longer than the other, and the oral dr said it can be filed down by my dentist. But ive been reading people say it's a bad idea. Is it? or will i be fine?

I had a front tooth filed down and it was the best thing my dentist ever did! It was like getting cosmetic surgery in minutes! Go for it...just make sure you have a dentist you trust.
Reply:There is nothing wrong with filing teeth. My dentist filed both my front teeth. They were a little rough from grinding them. Much better now and no complications. Go ahead and do it.
Reply:If it will not breach the enamel layer, then it will be fine. It depends upon the amount that needs to be removed.

Also, will it mean that you will no longer be able to bite with your front teeth?

Your dentist should be able to advise you if you are a suitable case.
Reply:Perfectly normal and done all of the time.
