Braces and retainer question?

does braces cost the same as a retainer? i just went to the orthodontist for my consult on what the dr. can do for my teeth. since my top teeth arent that messed up he said i can get a retainer if i want instead of braces and get braces on the bottom. but either way he said it would the same amount of money. does that make sence? wouldn't a retainer cost less? it's not an invisline retainer just a plain old metal one.

Braces and retainer question?
After you pay for the braces and so on, they give the retainer for you for free. If you damage or lose the retainer though, you have to pay for repairs or a new one.
Reply:YEAH THE RETAINERS COST NOTHING

I SHOULD KNOW CUZ I HAD A RETAINER

AND NOW I HAVE BRACES.HOPE THAT HELPS !!!

THEY GIVE EM 2 U FREE 1 U HET THE BRACES
Reply:retainers are cost way less...well the metal kind anyhow

the invisline ones are so expensive cause of the popularity

if u can get away with getting the metal kind get that ...then if their is an occasion u dont want to wear it like a dance or hmmm school pictures u dont have to wear it..

FYI from personal experience DO NOT get the invisline ones cause they break to easyt
Reply:yes, the retainer should cost A LOT less since less material to replace, like the elastics and glue also less metal and more plastic, I would try to talk to another ortho for an extra opinion
Reply:my braces were $4,000 and my retainer was only $100 so does that answer it?
Reply:my retainers cost $190. there like $90ish each cause they add on some for the pair but like if you only have to get top ones i would DEF! get retainers. there a ton cheaper! o and mine were invisalign so they prob cost more but still
Reply:Hello, so far you have a couple of good answers and some that are dead "wrong"...The ones in error are the ones that say "Retainers" are Free, they are not. Some dentist include the retainer in their overall braces fee. As for a retainer without first having braces, that is seldom done and in most cases it's not really a Retainer, it's an Orthodontic appliance. Those are designed to actually move teeth, a "Retainer" does what the name implies, it "Retains", meaning it simply keeps the teeth in an existing position. Cost wise, an Orthodontic appliance does usually cost a little less than the braces, while the Retainer should be the less costly of them all. Good luck and I wish you well.
Reply:my parents just payed $3,450 for my braces and they gave me my retainers for $12 for a discount when they are suposed to be more
Reply:the retainer cost is typically included in the braces cost. but it depends on the doctors fees. at our office, we charge $160 for one retainer, much less than braces are. i would call and have him clairify what he means.
Reply:umm...retainers are expensive for me. i wentot a private practice when i HAD insurance. my first set of invisalign were free. i lost them. they charged me $500 (250 uppers and lowers) for a new set. i lost them two more timea after that, got the metal ones and they still charged me $500!

can i walk into any dental office and ask for retainer fitting? cuz i lost them again at an airport. i know i am ridiculous but im very forgetful! please help my teeth are shifting!!!

also, anyone know of any good dental insurance that had orthoontic coverage and does not cost an arm and leg? im a undergrad student and and horrified of baving bad teeth again and i dont graduate for a while!
Reply:A retainer will cost about 125.00-200.00. Braces just for the bottom of your teeth should be between 1,000.00-2,000.00, depending on the treatment that is necessary.

However you should not pay the same price if you are recieving a retainer on top. Call another orthodontist and get a second opinion...most orthodontist will do a free consultation.
