Wisdom teeth extraction eight days ago. Still in pain!?

Dr. checked yesterday, said looked good. I%26#039;ve been taking Motrin 600. At first it worked well, but now it%26#039;s almost as if I am building up a tolerance or something? Took one 1 1/2 hours ago, and still throbbing pain. Help!

Wisdom teeth extraction eight days ago. Still in pain!?
You could be getting a dry socket...I heard those hurt!!
Reply:You didn%26#039;t get hydrocodone? That%26#039;s pretty much standard for stuff like that...trust me it helps.

*edit: If the surgery was pretty recent you should stay on the Vicodin but if its been more than a couple weeks or so I%26#039;d say you should get that checked out.
Reply:You might have a dry socket. Did you drink out of a straw or smoke after the extraction?
Reply:When I got mine out I had the same problem, I double the dose and try to take some sleeping pills
Reply:you only got Motrin 600?! tell Dr. you need some percocet or vicodin or something!

also, you might have dry sockets. that%26#039;s the WORST. tell him you have dry sockets.
Reply:piece of your tooth could stay inside of your jar. visit a doctor.
Reply:Some people experience pain more than others.

Try not laying down so that there is good blood flow to your face. Put some ice on your face for no more than 10 min, at a time every half hour.

You might need more than Mortrin. Call your doc and ask.
Reply:learn to tolerate pain
Reply:It is normal to still be in pain. Do you have anything stronger than Motrin? Make sure you are using the surynge with water to clean out the area after you eat anything. Dry-socket can be dangerous and it is definitely disguisting and painful. Make sure to have your doctor take a look. Otherwise, the pain should subside soon.
Reply:maybe u should go see the dentist or something!if its your gums there just probably still soar from the birth of teeth, lol!

know if its your teeth know there%26#039;s got to be a problem!

so if i were you go to the dentist!
Reply:get oragell and put some on the wound it will numb it
Reply:I was given Vicodin (acetaminophen and hydrocodone). never felt a thing until I got an infection. and obviously you don%26#039;t have one of those or your dentist would have seen that. I take it you weren%26#039;t given that? wow. that is unreal. talk to your doctor about that. you should have been given some form of Vicodin unless you%26#039;re allergic to something in it.
Reply:i got my wisdom teeth pulled in july so i know what you are feeling. my teeth felt ok with the pills they gave me for the first few days but after that it seemed like nothing could numb the pain. i believe this is caused by the fact that the local anaesthetic they used during the surgery is wearing off. my teeth hurt for months after the procedure but..... everyone heals at different rates. still don%26#039;t worry, after eight days it would be very strange if you were NOT in pain. so hang in there hun, and try not to up your meds to help with the pain becuase your body will build up a tolorence eventually. ice cream!
Reply:Wait a week %26amp; all should be well.
Reply:I got mine pulled about a year ago, and one extra, because they were so large the holes are just healing up, but when weather comes in it still hurts alot. My dentist prescribed vicaden for me though and actually refilled the prescription, because they were so large and almost melded to my jaw bone. Look in the mirror with a flashlight and small mirror. Do you still see clots? If so its good, it means no dry socket. If not what was explained to me is santize a pin, this was by the dentist, scrap the inside of the socket until it starts bleeding, than rinse immediately with water and bite down on some gauze. Have you tried tylenol also. Rotate the two out it will help, and call and see if they can prescribe something stronger. Cry, don%26#039;t try to be tough let them know you are in pain!!!!! Another thing you can try is the Panda licorice candies. Don%26#039;t chew on them suck, they%26#039;re in the health food section of most grocery stores. Licorice naturally numbes and drink some green tea to help keep your mouth clean. It will also help with the pain.
