Is lymph node swelling in my neck, usual after having my wisdom teeth extracted?

The lymph node in the right side of my neck became swollen, AFTER I had my wisdom teeth extracted. Never had a problemwith this before. It subsides some, then swells up and becomes painful upon physical exertion( I play baseball), Went back to my oral surgeon and he says I%26#039;m coming down with flu. My Dr. says, no flu, see your oral surgeon.....Any ideas? Anyone have lymph node swelling, AFTER extractions?

You could have some infection..that%26#039;s what your lymph nodes do..When you have some infection they swell.
Reply:I dont know. How often do you have your wisdom teeth extracted? Did it happen the last time?
Reply:get some wintergreen life savers. keep one or two in mouth for a day or two, sounds like you may have a few bone chips in the salvatory glads, that happens after getting wisdom teeth pulled. the wintergreen live savers will make the salvatory glads open and flow, ie; clear them out, also could be small bits of blood. that what i had to do, kept 2 wintergreen mints in mouth for couple days. try it, it and old school trick, and it works.
Reply:My lymph nodes swell, when I%26#039;m concentrating as hard as I can to remember something a long time ago,or I%26#039;m really worried deeply for along term item, especially when my nose is congested. My husband(deceased) had jowls on the sides of his mouth(he%26#039;s only40!) that did the same thing according to his deepest feelings of frustration(and his nose). My doctor%26#039;s said it doesn%26#039;t hurt anything as long as there%26#039;s no pain. When I had my wisdom teeth extracted it made more room and it got a little better-less noticeable swelling. It would not hurt them to give you some antibiotics. This swelling for me usually goes down when I take antibiotics for anything.I love to take those so I look real good. You could go to an ear/nose/throat specialist and see what he says, since the rest of them turned you away. You sound like you could have an infection-or your glands show through more with your teeth plucked out? Also it works better not to chew very much chewing gum, pick a lozenge instead.
Reply:I had to have all 4 of mine CUT out of my mouth and I had no problem at all. And yes it does sound like and infection. I f you had the flu you would have these symptoms:

~Fever (usually high)

~Headache

~Muscle aches

~Chills

~Extreme tiredness

~Dry cough

~Runny nose may also occur but is more common in children than adults

~Stomach symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, may also occur but are more common in children than adults

I doubt that your lymph nodes would swell. You really need to get that checked out thoroughly. I would recommend goig to s second opinion doctor, and see what they think. Hope this helps. And I hope you get better!
Reply:You didn%26#039;t mention how long it%26#039;s been since you had oral surgery or if these were impacted or erupted teeth or any difficulty involved in their removal. Just because your glands swell %26quot;at times%26quot; doesn%26#039;t mean you have an infection. The lymph nodes work to control or clean up any bacteria that can cause an infection. Your body is simply working to keep it%26#039;s self in a state of homeostasis. It%26#039;s quite possible that you are doing too much too soon with your physical exertion in baseball. It may be advisable for you to take a few days off and give your body the extra time to heal. Be sure to follow the post op instructions to include using the warm salt water rinses, especially after meals to remove any food particles that may become lodged in the extractions sites. If this swelling continues, becomes worse, or any other symptoms appear, then I would suggest you return to the oral surgeon’s office for further evaluation. Hope I’ve been of some help and good luck with your healing and the baseball!
Reply:Considering that the lymph nodes respond to an infection by accumulating white blood cells and increasing in size it seems logical to assume that you have an infection along the lymph node pathway that is swollen. It is not uncommon at all to get an infection after wisdom tooth extraction, especially if you are a smoker. I am surprised that your MD didnt put you on any antibiotics. They should clear you up in no time.
