What causes a child to not grow normally or have teeth at at 13 months old?

My youngest son is currently 13 and a half months old, he has not even started to cut teeth . Last week his pediatrician wanted tests done because on the scale that is used to rate childrens growth by, my son doesn%26#039;t even come close to even registering on it because he is so small, and the dr wanted to run tests to see if something was wrong. He is about the size of a 6 month old in height, but is actuatly sort of chubby weight wise. He wasn%26#039;t born premature or anything, and didn%26#039;t have any problems in the first year or after.

Dr said today that the blood work was back, and everything looked fine, but he still wanted to send him to childrens hospital for even more testing.

What could be causing him not to grow normally and not to cut teeth? Could the not teething and growth be caused by the same thing??

wow at first i thought i had written this question. my daughter is 13 months and she is 16.2 pounds. her doctors keep complaining about her weight as well. saying she isnt even in the 10th percentile. my daughter was born only 2 days early so that wasnt the issue. she also had blood work and no problems. and she also has no teeth at all. i look everyday hoping to see a speck of white popping out but nothing.

my doctor set another appointment for her on the 27th and said if her weight wasnt up they would enroll her in a program at the hospital to see why her weight is so low , and yes they said the exact same to me , she is the size of a 6 month old do you feed her well? she has actually gotten to the point she hates to eat because we are so dwelling on her gaining weight we basically force feed her.

but you know what . i think this is just how God made my daughter. i am happy with her as she is. she is happy and has only gotten 1 fever. she is in great shape. she walks and is trying to run, she can identify objects in books when i ask where is ...? she can point and show me. mentally she is above her age. so not everyone is born perfect weights and have perfect bodies i sure dont. i wish they would get off my back about it. some people just arent meant to be heavy. here in the usa almost all kids are a bit overweight. and i know if she were bigger they would just complain about her being obese or something else. they are never happy. i am just sitting back doing the best i can to make sure she is healthy and happy. and if her teeth are slow or her weight isnt as high as everyone else thats just fine for me . i know i am doing my best . i am sure you are too. this is just the way our children are meant to be. God made them beautiful in every way i am just glad i am not alone and there are other mothers out there with the same issues.
Reply:Instead of worrying about what could be causing it and probably finding something that is completely horrible and completely wrong, just be patient and wait until all the test results come back. Doctors are the best ones to answer this question for you, and that%26#039;s what they%26#039;re trying to do. Be patient, and try not to worry.
Reply:He could just be a slow grower. My daughters were the same way. My youngest is 11 and she is barely on the chart. The doc says that is just her normal growth pattern. She still has 8 teeth to lose, which is really slow.

So, your baby is probably fine. He%26#039;ll just be smaller than other kids.
Reply:I myself got teeth very late. The doctor told my mother that everyone%26#039;s teeth grow in at different times. Your son may just be one of those kids who gets teeth later that usual.
