I had my wisdom teeth removed a week or so ago but today this happened, is it normal?

today I noticed something sticking out of the back right socket where they took the wisdom tooth out, I though it was the stitches but it kept poking me so I looked again and it was some material sticking out, I pulled on it and it was a peice of material about 2 inches long with a peice of wire in it so you can bend it and it stays in place, I assume the dr. put it there to help soak up the blood is it ok that I removed it, the site is now bleeding a little but nothing serious, should I be alarmed or anything? is it normal?

It should be fine. It probably is just something the Dr. put in there for bleeding. I would call the Dr. just to be sure but I don%26#039;t think it is anything to serious.
Reply:That didn%26#039;t happen when I had mine removed. I would suggest asking your oral surgeon.
Reply:This is not a joke, you better go to the dentist rite now!
Reply:Call the dentist right away. It%26#039;s probably something that was left behind by accident and you have no way of knowing if it could cause infection. You don%26#039;t want to fool around with anything in your head.
Reply:...they normally pack it to stop the bleeding but they tell you to take the gauze out...I have no clue what the metal would be...you may have disturbed the clotting process so I would call the dentist immediately....
Reply:I%26#039;ve had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed and that never happened. It would be wise to get a second opinion from a different dentist, maybe the first one forgot to tell you about the gauze in your mouth and if so, if the skin grows over it during the healing process, then it will be trapped and cause more infections. Good Luck and Merry Christmas
Reply:My stitches came out on their own, but they didn%26#039;t have wire in them. You should call your surgeon.
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth removed and this did not happen to me. If I were you I would call them and ask what that is and if you can take it out. Better safe than sorry.
Reply:Well ive never really heard of a wire sticking out, but your stitches should be fallg out by now. Just call your doc and ask to make sure.
Reply:It sounds like something has been left behind, call the dentist that removed your wisdom teeth, or go to a different one, but take the piece of wired gauze with you, whichever dr. you choose. They will need to see it. You might consider taking a photo of it too, just in case you develop further problems, like infection...it%26#039;s always good to keep the evidence.
Reply:go back to the dentist and have him take a look and explain what he did
Reply:this is packing the dentist puts in to help clot. it is usually medicated. it helps to stop you from getting a dry socket (which is extremely painful), and also so that food doesn%26#039;t get into the hole and cause infection. as long as you are not in pain and keep the socket clean you should be ok. DO NOT DRINK THROUGH A STRAW!!!! this is the easiest way to get a dry socket
Reply:Call the doctor, I think that should have been removed ! Infection could have resulted.

All that you should have to deal with is the stitches which disintegrate over time--then the ends that stick out eventually fall off ( or they start to itch and you pull them off when the gum is healed).
Reply:Call the dentist or just go to the office with the material you got out. Show it to him and let him explain.
Reply:so now the site of where he worked on is now open and exposed again right? OMG go call the dentist now!!
