Dr. Sam: Question About Brushing Gums?

How should u brush ur gums? Bc I heard that ur automatically brushing ur gums when u brush ur teeth, so if ur brushing ur teeth properly u don%26#039;t need 2 separately brush ur gums.

Or should we brush our gums by literally massaging all of our gummy areas w/ our toothbrush?

Reply:I had never heard (or considered) this until about 2-3 years ago. To help in the fight against bad breath, the dentist suggested that after you%26#039;ve thoroughly brushed your teeth, take your toothbrush (still with the toothpaste) and brush your tongue and your gums. The reasoning was for better breath, but there is a second benefit ... to brighten up the base of the teeth (where they meet your gum line). Apparently a lot of people don%26#039;t get that area well enough.

Don%26#039;t forget to floss and use an antiseptic mouthwash like Listerine. They make a HUGE difference.
