My 8 yr old some just got a small filling2 wks ago.now he's saying it hurts.took him back Dr. had 2 file down

his filling,next day son says it hurts really bad and face is swollen bad,took him back again dentist said he needs to redo the tooth take out filling and fix exposed nerve.I didnt realy understand it but my some is in olt of pain and IDK if it was his fault or something that just happened to be? what do you think?

the decay was close to the nerve. the nerve became inflamed and that is why your son is in so much pain. Your son is going to need a baby root canal (pulpotomy) if it is no a baby tooth. A root canal if it is on an adult tooth.





It is not the DDS fault when a cavity is deep and close to the nerve it is hard to know if it is going to cause a problem.
Reply:The decay was probably too close to the nerve of the tooth. When the dentists adjusted the tooth they were trying to make sure he was biting on it with the proper amount of force. The swollen face usually means infection. A root canal in an adult tooth or a pulpotomy in a "baby" or primary tooth is the treatment, followed with a crown of some short. Hopefully your dentist gave him an antibiotic to relieve the infection. If you still have doubts get second opinion, but it is not rare for a tooth that looks like it needs a filling to have much large decay once the open it up and look inside.
