I just finished wearing my invisalign treatment to close some spaces in my teeth. The orthodontist put permantent wires behind the teeth to keep the spaces closed for good. The problem is that the glue blocks the spaces in my teeth so the dr. said I cannot floss. Since the wires are permanent does that mean that I can never floss again? Has anyone heard of this?
Invisalign help!?
Not flossing will certainly cause gingivitis, if worsened it could develop into periodontal disease. Flossing is the the best prevention against perio disease and interproximal caries (cavities that form on surfaces you can't reach with the brush!) If it were my mouth, I'd ask the orthodontist to do something so I could floss.
Reply:Ask your orthodontist or your general dentist about floss threaders. This is what you'll have to use to floss. Good luck!
Reply:Justine's right. I can't imagine a DENTIST putting one of these wires in place and then telling you that you just can't floss any more. That would be malpractice, in my opinion.
Try the drug store for "floss threaders" or ask a real dentist.
