My son is 8 months old, he holds his ears and cries. We've taken him to the doctor and the doc said he doesnt have an ear infection.. She said he's just teething. But he already has 4 teeth and he didnt cry this much.. What else could it be? He has no fever and he shows no signs of anything abnormal. Please help.
My 8 month old son keeps holding his ears %26amp; screaming, yet the dr. said he has no infection. what could it be?
well, babies and kids are known to hurt themselves to block out other painful things... this is a long shot, but i just wanted to add a different answer than what you've already gotten. If parents are fighting or even physical pain, like teeth coming in, can cause a kid to distract themselves somehow, possibly playing or pulling their ears. Just a thought. Good luck! And get a second opinion! :)
Reply:Maybe you need a second opinion.
Reply:Have you thought about getting a second opinion? Perhaps an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist.
Reply:he could just be holding his ear for comfort. I know a lot of little kids that play with their ears when they are tired. it could be teething. sometimes it hurts more than others.
Reply:sounds like an ear infection to me . . I agree that you should get a second opinion . .
Reply:It is possible he could be getting molars in, which are much more painful than the other teeth, and generally take longer. Does he cry as though he is in pain? or just upset? It is good to hear he has seen the doctor, but if it isn't stopping, you should take him back in and ask for some other possibilities aside from an ear infection. it is possible for babies to get headaches, although I don't know what goes along with it. If you are concerned, talk to you doctor again! and dont feel bad getting a second opinion.
Reply:Could be teeth grinding...my baby does that terribly loud. My doc says that some babies just like to pull their ears when upset. (???) I understand the frustration.
Reply:Did your babies dr check his throat? all those tubes are connected ... my son did the same thing, they checked his ears, and nothing, she said he was teething, we went back a week later, another dr checked his throat and he had a lot of redness...
Reply:Give him a teething ring or some homeopathic teething tablets. Just because he didn't cry before doesn't mean these new teeth don't hurt.
Reply:Same thing happened to my daughter at a year old. The first doctor missed the ear infection. If he's screaming that much, it's doubtful that it's only teething. I'd take him in again tomorrow, just to be sure, just for your own peace of mind. In the meantime, tylenol or motrin should help at least a little.
Reply:Going off my experience with my daughter at that age...she did great with her teething until she got 4 in at once. I didn't understand what was going on until one day they all popped through. I gave her Hyland's tablets to calm her. But if the crying and ear pulling doesn't subside within a few days, another opinion is needed. GL!
Reply:DEAR GO TO ER ASAP TO GET HELP THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT AN YOUR DOCTOR DOES NOT KNEW ANY THING ABOUT SOUNDS LIKE TO ME FIND HIM A NEW DOCTOR ASAP THERE IS SOME THING WRONG THEY JUST DO NOT PULL ON THERE EARS FOR NOTHING IF YOU USE A BABY Q-TIP IN HIS EARS YOU MAY HAVE SOME COTTON STUCK IN THERE THAT YOU CAN NOT SEE IT BUT DO NOT BLAME YOU SELF NOT YOUR FAULT IT IS YOUR DOCTORS TAKE CARE HAPPY NEW YEAR ARE HE COULD HAVE SWIMMERS EAR IF YOU WASHED HIS HEAD LATELY
Reply:You know...some ear infections come on really quickly...esp bacterial ones. SO if the dr checked it and didn't see anything, i'd take him back in 24 or 36 hours to be checked again. By then the redness will be more apparent.
Good luck. Sometimes those molars coming in are a real PITA, so it could be that, but I'd bet that you took him in early enough that there weren't any external signs. Take him back in. Good luck!
Reply:My son did that and he just didn't want to hear anyone, so he covered his ears and screamed to drown everyone out. Maybe he's just going through a phase. Or it could be something serious and the Doctor you take him to hasn't detected anything. If you don't think that's the case take him to see a specialist. Do what your heart tells you to do.
Reply:I took my son a couple times when he was teething case i thought he had a ear ache too. My doc said sometimes you can't tell right away so maybe it wouldn't hurt to go again in case you went to soon and missed the signs. My son did the same thing though but it was just his teeth. There was one time he had teething coming in that was way worse though, he cried for 2 hours straight. So it could be just his teeth too.
Reply:I have to agree with everyone else...sounds like your son might have an ear infection...and maybe you should get a second opinion!!
Reply:It could be teething, sometimes babies play with their ears its true but also when a baby feels pain in their teeth they don't always know it is in their teeth, so they grab their ear because they know something on their head hurts. trying getting some baby abisol to rub on his gums, and also concider a second opnion, my first three doctors where horses asses, remember doctors are people too and they also make mistakes.
Reply:I just went through this same thing, and my daughter has a history of ear problems. She was/is getting her molars in. The other teeth aren't as close to the ear canals either so it wasnt the same w/ other teeth. She is grumpy, not sleeping through the nite any more, generally in a bad mood and acting out even. Poor babies can't talk. I massage her head and the back of her neck and it seems to sooth her. At bathtime she "brushes" her teeth and teeths on her toothpaste w/ Dora toothpaste. In fact, she is very creative when it comes to teething. Most babies are. Give him longish things to chew on that will reach back there like his toothbrush.
Reply:It could be swimmers ear although i know a lot of little kids that hold on to their ear for fun, when they are getting ALL of their teeth or just for comfort.
