Can dentists tell if you have been smoking?

Okay i have smoked about 2 packs of cigarettes in about 2 months, and i have a consultation tomorrow with my dentist about getting my wisdom teeth out, can my dr. find out if i have been smoking and if he does do you think he will tell my mom?

ps. Is there anything i can do to hide it?

Can dentists tell if you have been smoking?
There are some manifestations in the mouth that occur from cigarette smoking such as smoker's melanosis (the little red dots,) a lightened color of gum tissue, periodontal disease, heavier amounts of calculus/tartar, and of course the smell if you have smoked lately.

However, these usually occur with those that smoke a half to a pack a day or more. Since you have only smoked about a quarter a pack a week, I doubt a dentist would be able to tell as long as you havne't smoked in the last day or two.

If he did think you smoked, it would only be a guess and I doubt that he would mention it to your parents.
Reply:yes, they can tell, no hiding from the dentist!!
Reply:aslong as you brush your teeth regularly two pack in two months isnt really enough to start staining your teeth....cigarettes have tar, just look at the filter, it turns yellow because the tar gets filtered out but not all of it, the tar also deposits on your teeth when you are a smoker but as far as forty smokes in 2 months i think you'll be alright dude, i've smoke for two years and my doctors nor dentists believe me that i do so you'll be alright
Reply:Yes, he will be able to smell it on your breath.

Second it stains your teeth, no matter how much you brush them.

Will he fink on you? How good of a friend is he to your family %26amp; how old are you. If your in your late teens, probably not. If your are in your early teens %26amp; he is a good family friend, probably.

Brush, rinse with mouth wash %26amp; stop smoking. Don't chew anything, that really ticks a dentist off. Mine told me that.
Reply:Yes, we can tell if you smoke........you will have little red dots on the roof of your mouth =). However, the dentist will probably not say anything to your parents.........that is not what he is there for. We can tell all kinds of things people do.......but we don't always say anything.
