Which one is it?

My husband had a disorder in which the enamel of his teeth would rot, so he had to have all of his top teeth pulled except for one - a molar.

Prior to having his teeth pulled, he was having seizures. We spent thousands and thousands of dollars trying to figure out what was wrong with him, but only his dentist could figure it out - it was his teeth and infection (so says the dentist) causing this to happen. He had been put on Amoxicillin for the infections (and being on it the entire time he was having seizures) and after having his teeth removed and stopping the medication, his seizures stopped.

Now 8 months later, that molar is starting to bother him. He went to the dentist the other day and sure enough, he has an abcess (sp) and the dr. put him back on the same medication.

Last night, after being on the medication for 1 day, the seizures started up again, so I did a little research and this is what I came up with:

Which one is it?
Good evening,

My names Paul and Im a dentist here in Ireland.

Firstly, re his teeth, you must understand everyone has different teeth, different strength enamel etc..some people have poorly formed enamel due to varying factors..genetics, meds taken by mother while baby was in utero etc.

His remaining molar needs to be extracted. Why would he keep it?He only has one,get it out.I'm sure he has impants or bridge or dentures in place so this tooth needs to come out as soon as he can..when abscess is gone.

What bothers me is WHO PRESCRIBED amoxycillin after he haad a severe allergic reaction last time?

I havent met him or examined him so I Cant say IF it is the antibiotic BUT if it is WHY is he on it? WHO prescribed that.

If he's allergic to amoxycillin he's allergic to ALL penecillins.

This is serious.

He must attend a hospital, NOT whatever incompetent fool of a dentist or doctor prescribed this.I would also be making a serious complaint to the apt authorities about this practitioner.

There are alternative antibiotics to suit dental infections, such as flagyl, that are not penecillin.

Bring him to hospital and erxplain all this. This is a serious problem suited to immediate medical attention and not yahoo answers.

Its important that ALL available screenings, scans are done to definetly diagnose the seizure cause, be it epilepsy, or indeed a tumour, related or not related to dental that may be causing this.

Amoxycillin must be discontinued it seems but on a proper doctors advice. He needs to be examined in a hospital.

I would spare no energy in my pursuit of the person who again prescribed amoxycillin if this turns out to be the cause

I hope I've helped somewhat and I wish you luck.

ps..tetracycline while useful for dental problems is too slow acting for abscess and is usually used in conjunction with another antibiotic or to penecillin resistant abscess.
Reply:if he is sensitive to Amox try tetracycline's. Its a very good drug for gum infection %26amp; does not cause much side efects, the next alternat is erthromycin. Its better if he goes for total extraction %26amp; a compleet denture, the removable one. The implants will cause him infections %26amp; he may have to under go the same medications.
