Are soothie pacifiers safe?

Im asking bc at my baby's 2 month check up the dr said to take it away bc it will mess up her teeth and to give her a nuk pacifier. It seems weird bc the hospital is the one that gave us the soothie(big green) in the first place?

Are soothie pacifiers safe?
If you look at the AAP website they state that even up until age 3 pacifiers cause no significant risk to oral development. My 15 1/2 month old uses his every day and when HE is ready it will go in the trash. His pediatrician todl me at his 12 month check up to take his away because it woudl affect his verbal development. HAH!! He talks as much as his 13 year old sister does!
Reply:In my opinion, pacifiers are okay, unless you use them too long. My daughter wouldn't take a paci at all, and my son likes the Nuk ones. My cousin's baby had a pacifier till he was three and just had his front teeth pulled due to decay. Your baby is young still, doesn't have teeth yet-maybe- so do what you think, it's your baby. But I will let my son have one until his teeth come in.
Reply:"As long as the habit is discontinued before their permanent teeth come in (around ages 4-5) your child will be fine."

I think the NUK ones are considered "orthodontic" but the green ones are not going to cause issues.

In my opinion your doctor may be a little misinformed or overreacting. But I'm not the one with an MD after my name either.
Reply:The pediatricians at the hospital here recommend the soothie pacifiers. I think dentists recommend that you take the pacifier away at 12 months, same as the bottle for mouth development reasons.
Reply:they are fine to use, they just meant that as big as the soothie are they might cause bad teeth.
