1.the history of the ailment
-55 yrs, male
-The patient had teeth implant with operation in the gum
in Jan. 2006
-His abdoment swallen sometime but he didn't think about
ascites since beginning of 2006
-Some pain on his waist since last July
-Some ooze from belly button in July but cured soon after
application of penicillin ointment
-He took oriental medicine since Febraury.
-May this year, he started to have ascites, losing appetite
and hospitalized
-Taking out 12 ltrs of water from the abdomen
2.diagnosis
-Dr.s diagnoses him as TB with symptoms but failed to
discover germs instead found ulcer inside the large intestine
-TB streches to peritoneum, intestine
-Having thorough check with CT, Endoscope extracted
sample check of cells, Dr.s found no evidences for cancer
-Dr.s don't know the cause of ascites
3.medication
-Inh, rfp, emb, pga
4.present situation
-ascites,weak urine,no appetite,weight loss
(Repeat) constant ascites from intestinal TB for more than 6 weeks?
You seem as if you don't agree with the Dr. s diagnosis of Abdominal TB? Maybe you need some differential diagnosis?
Ascites is a condition where excess fluid collects in the space within the abdomen called the peritoneum and can result from serous (proteinacous substances), haemorraghic (blood), or tumour cells collecting within that area.
It can be due to a complication from a variety of conditions and present as a symptom for even a larger number of diseases.

Pericarditis
Cor Pulmonale
Heart Failure
%26gt;Liver Disorders%26lt;
Liver cirrhosis
Hepatitis
Obstructive Jaundice
%26gt;Kidney Disorders%26lt;
Nephrotic Syndrome
(to name a few)
I'm presuming they would have ruled out all the above with preliminary physical examinations, blood tests (Complete Blood Count, Blood Film, Urea and Electrolytes, Blood Culture), urine tests and lab tests (Chest Xray, ECG, Abdominal Ultrasound etc)
The Dr.s seem to have ruled out abdominal cancers by doing cytology (test on cells). But how about a metastatic cancer (cancer that spread)? If it's small enough it may not be picked up on a Abdominal CT (If that was what was done) and a full body CT or MRI could be done.
Also how about immunoproliferative conditions like multiple myleoma or malignant lymphoma?
Hope this helped in some way
P.S. Couldn't quite figure out what the medications represented. inH and rfp are probably isoniazid and rifampicin which is used to treat TB; not sure about the others

Abscess without a tooth?
Can you get an abscess in a spot where a tooth has already been removed?
My husband has swelling and pain on the right side of his face and earlier today had bleeding from his gums where he had a tooth removed over five years ago. He described it as kind of "bursting" open and bleeding. What can be done about it without seeing a Dr. (no insurance/cash).
Abscess without a tooth?
I'm sorry, but you will need to be seen by your dentist. This could be something as simple as a root fragment working it's way out, a particle of food that became embedded in the tissue and is infected, or it could be something serious. Don't wait, in the meantime take 400-600mg of Motrin or Advil for discomfort, rinse with really warm salt water several times a day, also avoid brushing too hard over this area but do keep it clean.
Reply:to be honest, he needs to see a doc. that kind of crape can kill a person. call a dentes and see if they know some that can help you, some time they work with groups, that help people with out insurance. hope this helps, and good luck

Help! 8mo old daughter teething and has bad diaper rash from it. What can help it?
Before I get resposes saying anything about teething not causing diaper rash - when I told Dr she was teething, first thing he asked was "How is her bottom?" Dr looked at %26amp; gave prescription and it worked, but then bottom got worse. It keeps doing this. I change her diaper at LEAST every hour and slather on ointmet. I also have tried no diaper, but the diarreah is so acidic that the VERY brief contact on legs scalled her little legs. She cries when I lay her down to change her becasue her little bottom is so raw. I feel so sorry for her. I took her back to the Dr and was given another ointment to use. It get's better, then next movement it is as bad as before or worse. My son never had a diaper rash.. I have never seen a rash this bad. It just breaks my heart. Oh! I also am limiting fruits because of the acid content. I thought we had it cleared up, but came back. She has bottom teeth in and four uppers coming in at same time so lots of saliva loosening stool.
Help! 8mo old daughter teething and has bad diaper rash from it. What can help it?
I know this will sound crazy, but my grandfather(of all people) told me to use milk of magnesia...Put some on a cotton ball and dab it on your baby's' bottom until it is covered and white..Let it air dry, and reapply, be careful though because she may "potty" before you get her diaper back on.But I PROMISE you this will work.Make sure you shake the Milk of Magnesia really well before you apply it though. My Dr had also prescribed the Nystatin and some other grainy type cream that had to mixed by the pharmacist, and nothing worked...I do know the rash you are talking about, raw, almost looks like it will bleed...Poor baby girl..It hurts to just look at it.You can also use the Wal-Mart brand or generic, just make sure it is the Milk of magnesia stuff...
Good luck, and at least give it a try... It has worked on both my kids, I'm also 7 months pregnant, and should the blasted rash appear on my next baby, I WILL use it again...
Reply:I used oatmeal baths on my boys when they had rashes..and yes they were teething when they had their rashes.
Reply:this is going to sound crazy but i promise it works. If you put flour on a frying pan and on low heat keep stirring the flour until it becomes golden brown once it does remove from heat and wait for it to cool. Once the browned flour is cool use it to dust your baby's bottom and it will take the rash away for you
Reply:Nystatin...ask your dr to prescribe some.
Reply:poor baby. :( have you tried desitin creamy? ive found that to work the best. or you can also put corn starch on her bottom. oh and also something that may help with the diarhea is giving her some bananas, that is a natural cure for diarhea. and if you take away the diarhea you take away the rash (hopefully). good luck.
Reply:i have reccomended it so many times and people are soo pleased with this i promise you it works ok. take some baking flour and put it in a frying pan on the stove. heat it and stir it until it is a light brown color and sprinkle it on like you would baby powder. every diaper change and be sure to change the childs daiper every other hour. it will make the rash start to fade within the first day. it smells bad but It works soo well and so fast. any questions and you can IM me.
My message is even being passed on!!!
Reply:I have never heard of the connection between teething and diaper rash.
Perhaps using the remedy to sooth chicken pox might work, sit her in a tub of warm water with baking soda in it.
Have you used just plain Vaseline?
Reply:a good thing that worked for my boy was babay powder and keep putting heaps on every nappy change,my boy also got it on his chest and the powder works a dream,i tried four different ointments and this worked for me give it a try also when giving her a bath no soap or anything just quick rinse with water, also another good thing to use is vaseline, vaseline will protect her skin and will ease the breakage of the skin it is very simple, cheap but hell yeah it works go try it out
Reply:Have you tried using a blow dryer on very low heat before applying the ointment and rediapering? Drying the skin will aid in the drying of the rash and speed up the process. Please use LOW heat as a baby's skin is delicate and you don't want to burn her.
It is great that you have taken her to the doctor and I sure hope her little bottom clears up soon! You are also doing the right thing by changing her so often. Unfortunately, sometimes these rashes can be rather persistent. If the rash continues, please don't be afraid to take her to the doctor again as it can turn into a yeast infection related rash (due to constant moisture) which will require further treatment.
Reply:Fanny Cream, they sell it at Walmart. It is very thick and will help to protect from the urine burning. When my daughter had it, I had a small pool, it was like for a Barbie doll, it was about 2 feet circumference, anyways I used to put Aveeno in it and let her sit in it all of the time in the middle of the living room or wherever, it seemed to help. The no-diaper thing also helps alot. Nystatin also works great, but i am sure the Dr has already given you that.
Reply:Well, different kinds of rashes require different treatment.
If the rash is complicated by yeast, you'll need an ointment from the doctor to clear it up. We always used a small amount of the prescription ointment topped off with a thick application of Aquaphor.
If it's not yeast, you can try mixing Maalox and Aquaphor. (There's a recipe in "The Girlfriends' Guide to Baby Gear.) The same ingredient that neutralizes stomach acid will help protect your baby's skin. You pour off the liquid from a bottle of plain Maalox, then apply the leftover Maalox solids with a cotton ball and and top it with Aquaphor. Or you can mix up a batch to have on hand (it keeps for six months in a sealed jar): equal parts Maalox solids and Aquaphor. It always worked for us.
I know you already know, but letting the baby's bottom air out as much as possible really does make a difference.
DON'T GIVE A BABY YOUNGER THAN ONE YEAR HONEY! Babies' immune systems aren't mature, and honey can harbor the spores that cause botulism.
Reply:My daughter did something like this, they gave me nystatin also. I finally found what worked for her though. Give her the teething tablets, I gave her quite a bit extra cuz they aren't harmful. Give her Tylenol %26amp; keep up on it. The diarrhea will lesson when she's not in pain %26amp; drooling %26amp; swallowing it all day. The other thing was use the regular desitin, The creamy does not work, comes off too easy, I tried the butt paste etc... nothing worked but the regular desitin. If you keep up on these things it should work. My daughter was so bad she gave herself a hemmorhiod. It was awful, but this really helped.
Reply:Butt Paste works...it doesn't stink like Desitin.
You can find it at Target in the baby section.
Also, diaper rash is usually yeast related, so try to limit any sugar of any kind, even breads. The more Veggies you can get her to eat the better, they tend to be more alkaline instead of acidic.
I hope she gets better soon...:*(
Reply:Bananas sometimes helps with diarrhea so I would try a giving her a couple per day. Consider putting her on a bland diet to see if that helps. Avoid tomato based products - spaghetti, pizza, ketchup, etc.
Faithfully change her diaper after every BM. Let her play in the bathtub several times a day. Use only a couple of inches of water mixed with just a bit of mild soap - no bubble bath but baby wash would be good. After applying the ointment you can generously sprinkle cornstarch (the kind you cook with) on her bottom to help protect even more. It's smoother than powder and will help repel moisture.
My granddaughter has very sensitive skin and had diaper rash really bad when she was small. It breaks your heart to see them in so much pain. Good luck.
Reply:I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. My daughter only has one tooth and it wasn't that bad. However, I do work at a children's center and the thing I have seen work the best for diaper rash was Mary Kay nightime face cream. I know it sounds weird and how this kids mom thought to slather face cream on her kid's butt, I don't know. However, I have never seen anything work so well or so fast. This little boys diaper rash was fire engine red, rippled and cover his entire bottom, and when she brought this stuff in and put it on him it waws cleared up in less than a few hours. I know it's probably not very practical, but it's the best thing I have ever seen. I hope you find something.
Reply:Try something with Iron in it, this helps to firm up stools as well. My son had diaper rash and I pretty much had to keep his diaper off, but this can be hard to do all the time cause of the mess etc. Have you maybe tried Bag Balm it worked for me. I hope your little girl is feeling better soon I know it sucks when you see them not feeling well or in pain.
Reply:i recomend sudocreme
Reply:I find that Aquaphor cures everything. But that on her little bottom and it should clear up within 2 days.
Reply:I hope everything is ok with the baby . but have u tried cornstarch. it is cooling and it's soothing too i've tried it in my baby when she has heat bumps in her diaper. my yahoo id is dudley_space contact me so i can see how the little one is doing.
Reply:I have always use cornstarch when baies have diaper rash. sprinkle a pretty good amount everytime you change a diaper. Also like another suggested you can put a little baking soda in the bath water.
Reply:If Nystatin helped the diaper rash, it is *not* from drooling and teething. Nystatin is an antifungal. Limiting fruits will help with thrush because the yeast lives on sugars--confirmation that this is the cause. Your daughter probably has a thrush infection that is spreading through her digestive system to her butt. It is very common.
If you are breastfeeding, both you and her need treatment at the same time (and for at least a week and a half *after* there are no more symptoms). If you are bottle feeding and/or using pacifiers, you need to boil the bottles, nipples, and pacifiers once a day, and replace them once a week until this is over (in addition to treating her and/or you for thrush). If you are pumping milk, you should *only* pump for use within 24 hours until treatment is complete. Thrush can live in frozen or refrigerated milk.
Nystatin is *not* a very effective treatment for thrush anymore. Most strains have developed resistance to it. That is probably the reason it was effective at first and not anymore. And the longer it has been around (and especially following incomplete treatment), the more resistant it will be to *all* drug therapy.
By the way, drooling as a sign of teething *can* cause loose bowel movements, but it will *not* cause diarrhea. If you're not sure which your daughter has, try to figure it out. Diarrhea is unusually frequent and smells bad. If it's neither of these, it's just loose bowel movements caused by the extra liquid from all that drool. If it's diarrhea, there's probably something else going on, too. See your doctor.
Please check out the Web site listed in the sources section below for more information on thrush. (Go about 2 screen-fuls down to the section on thrush.) The doctor who wrote these handouts is a pediatrician who is an expert on breastfeeding.
I hope this helps. Good luck!!
Reply:I use a diaper rash cream called Butt Butter, my daughters pediatrician recommended it. Out of all the ointments and creams I have used it is the one with the highest zinc oxide in it.

I lost my retainer, but I've been wearing it off and on for 7 years?
After I got my braces removed when I was 16, I started wearing a retainer at night. I remember my Dr. saying that I should still wear it every now and then to keep my teeth from shifting(which I did).
I just lost it over a month ago, and haven't worn it in around 2 months, but I'm 23 now. I know my teeth will still shift, but should I really worry about this? I'm trying to find my old orthodontist to ask her, but it's been kinda hard. Anyone been though this have any advice? Thanks
I lost my retainer, but I've been wearing it off and on for 7 years?
I got my braces off when I was 13. I wore my retainer like a good girl for years, and then decided to accept the fact that my teeth would shift slightly. I haven't worn the retainer for about 3 or 4 years. My teeth have only slightly moved. Honestly, I think too perfect teeth aren't nesecarially attractive. Think about some really beautiful individuals...they have all kinds of interesting teeth...gaps, crooked spaces, etc.

Have you ever seen really advanced dental disease in a young dog?
My husband is a magnet for "misfit" dogs. He brought home a tiny malnourished chi-mix Sat. It has bright eyes and a "young" face, but horrible teeth. He has lost 7 of them so far. I took him to the clinic for shots, Clavamox, and to schedule full extraction of the teeth. They are all black, and the dog has lost bone in the front of the bottom jaw. Dr. says he looks about 2, has one dislocated knee, and several problems with his coat due to lack of food. He was 4.1lbs on Sat. I have never seen a young dog so badly deprived before. And I had no idea that starving a dog like that caused tooth loss. He can walk now and is eating baby food. He came from the south Chicago area.
They are doing surgery next week because they have to wait for some of the infection to abate before they can do anything for him. He is eating now, and has gained 4oz since Sat.
Have you ever seen really advanced dental disease in a young dog?
Yup, and it was because the dam(mother) wasn't cared for. Malnutrition can be passed through to the pups bones and teeth. This pup may also develop bowed legs.
Reply:Sorry to say but, Horrible what people do to their dogs! Yes the back can be hunched from malnutrition too. Its called Roach Backed. Sometimes it is genetic, malnutrition or too many pups that cause it. In this case I would dare to say malnutrition is the culprit. Good Luck and Thanks. Report It
Reply:Yes, I have seen it before. Unfortunately with those little dogs if they don't get enough to eat their bodies just seem to fall apart. I don't think it's as much of a problem with most of the larger dogs but the little ones really seem to suffer from a lack of food, even for just a short while.
The hunched back is common to malnourished animals. Not just dogs. Hopefully this little guy gets better quickly now that he is receiving proper care.
Reply:OMG!! This totally breaks my heart. Thank God your husband found him in time. My Sheltie is 2 and we had her teeth cleaned for the first time about a month ago. I brush them but not regular. I saw a lot of redness around her gum line and I freaked out, that will never happen again, her teeth are brushed every day. My husband and I were shocked that her teeth had gotten that bad in only 2 yrs and with us brushing...sometimes. Good luck to your new baby!!
Reply:ya that is possible. esspecially is they have not eaten.
Reply:Report that "breeder" to the SPCA - sounds awful.
Sometimes dogs just have a genetic predisposition to bad teeth - I've seen a 3 year old dog lose all it's teeth and suffer a broken jaw from periodontal disease...
Reply:My little black Pom has a slight hunch back, her spine curves to the left and she had missing teeth when I got her at 1 year old. I call her a dwarf because her body is also disproportioned like dwarfism is in people. She just turned 6 and she is missing half her teeth in spite of brushing and dental cleanings.
I don't know what the breeder did to her. Long story, but I didn't pick her out, she was given to me by my sister-in-law.
ADD:
You can see by her photo that she doesn't sit normally, either. She's always curved and tilted. But I love her to death and she has the sweetest disposition.

Is this i a jaw problem or a normal tooth ace?
i am having some problem with my jaw joint on the left side when sometimes i am opg or closing my mouth it sound cracks %26amp; sometimes it locks but after some time its normal again its not a frequent problem just occational but still i want to take care. and now one more time its worse. bcoz i think due to this i am having prob in my ear its like its throbbing from inside when i got the same prob last time the ear dr told me its nothing wrg with ur ear its just clean (6 months back %26amp; 1 year back)
so this time i went to dentist so she said even though i have a tooth problem ( a upper back tooth badly spoilt since years and almost half broken by now) its not bcoz of the tooth it might be a jaw problem. so i wanna know if she is right or just trying to make money fooling me? should i visit her again or should i consult another dr ear or normal phisician or an another dentist?
Is this i a jaw problem or a normal tooth ace?
i think you have a temporomandibular joint dislocation i dnt know hard to say need to see it first to check... i think you need to consult an expert to have it check... maybe do some radiographs.... do it ASAP...
Reply:You possibly have something as common as TMJ if you have a toothache with it i woud suggest buying some PURE VANILLA EXTRACT and swishing it in your mouth til the burn goes out of it and spit it out DO NOT SWALLOW it. after your tooth pain is gone i would suggest 3 things. 1.massaging your face at the side cheekbone i talk alot so i have to do this alot and it relaxes your facial muscles .Don't bite your nails it only contributes to the problem at hand.
3. do not prop your chin in your hand to rest because it puts pressure on the jaw bone
Reply:I have TMJ, atleast that is what the dentist told me years ago. Same symptoms as you, people will tell you all different things to do for it, but when it hurts it hurts. It is a jaw problem, more like a joint problem where you jaw detaches from your scull. Best advise I can give is go to a dentist. When you have a toothache or broken toothe it will bother you a lot more. And it should bother you right at the bottom of your ear behind the lobe. Try a warm rag on that, I have had that hurt for a week before, sometimes a warm compress will help. Good Luck. Get into a dentist as soon as you can.

Are humans vegetarians or omnivores?
Dr. Richard Leakey, a renowned anthropologist, summarizes, "You can't tear flesh by hand, you can't tear hide by hand. Our anterior teeth are not suited for tearing flesh or hide. We don't have large canine teeth, and we wouldn't have been able to deal with food sources that require those large canines."
The long human intestinal tract actually makes it dangerous for people to eat meat. The bacteria in meat have extra time to multiply during the long trip through the digestive system, and meat actually begins to rot while it makes its way through the intestines. Many studies have also shown that meat can cause colon cancer in humans.
Are humans vegetarians or omnivores?
NOTE ON PROTIEN:
Just because nuts have more total protien, doesn't mean its the same as protien from meat. We get complete protiens, which contain all the amino acid you body needs. Plants contain incomplete protiens, which do not have all the amino acids that your body needs. A variety of plants must be eaten to get all the necessary amino acids. This is evidence that we evolved as omnivores because there are few if any places that have enough of a variety locally to support vegetarian humans.
Whether or no we shouldn't eat meat now that we can get other food and be healthy is a completely different argument than if we evolved to bo omnivores.
--------------------------------------...
The idea that we were not designed to eat meat is complete and utter BS.
We are most definately omnivores. We die if we don't get meat. We can substitues, but it must be done carefully because plants do not provide complete protiens. They must be combined to survive. This is only possbile now because we can ship different plants from around the world that can be properly combine. There are few if any places in the world where humans could have enough options to get protiens though places other than meat. We could not run out and take down a deer with our bare hands because we have evolved using tools and our brains.
Don't turst an argument just because its from an "expert". He is an anthropolgist. He is not an expert in anatomy. Do not trust him.
Meat does not causse colon cancer. It has been shown that diets high in meat might increase the risk. This is VERY different from "causing" cancer. If it caused cancer we would have died out long ago.
Become a vegetarian for personal reasons, not because of what people like this jackass say. Vegetarians are considered healthier because they pay closer attention to their health than most other people. You can still eat meat and be healthy.
*Anyone who thinks that humans are not desined to eat meat, PLEASE explain to me how you think this is possible if 99.9% of humanity would become malnourished if they only ate what would be in their local environment.
Just because an explaination sounds nice and comes from "experts" doesn't mean it can't be full of poo. Use your head. People can only be counted on as experts if they are speaking within their own field of study, and even then there are tons of bozos being disowned by their collegagues. We will DIE if we do not eat meat unless we take tons of caution and imort food from around the world. We are OMNIVORES. You think eating meat is wrong, don't eat it. Don't claim its bad for us just because you want it to be.

The “mystery” of apes for occasional violent behavioral, while meat eating habit was not well studied. What they do eat is fruit, seeds, leaves, flowers, and pith. There is a category called "Miscellaneous", which for most species amounts to less than 5% of their diet, and for chimps and redtail monkeys less than 1%. Any way you slice it, their diet is at least 95% plants. Nevertheless human should not compare to a chimp, does not require meat to become occasionally violent, neither for survival anymore.
There is no question that humans are capable of digesting meat. But just because we can digest animals does not mean we're supposed to, or that it will be good for us. We can digest cardboard. That does not mean we should.
Among all creatures on the earth, only human “omnivore” (psychological myth) that our tooth could not crush the bones and shell. Though how well you cook, our digestive system could not assimilate the bones and shell. Hence, human body does not “tolerate” to dietary bones, shells, excessive fat, skin, intestines and blood. The more meat we eat, the sicker we get. Meat is poison to us. It's the primary reason we get heart disease, cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, and every other major degenerative disease. If eating meat were natural, it wouldn't destroy our health.

If you often relate a man to the closest primate like chimps, why don’t you collaborate with other major apes like guerillas? No where man could pursuit the diet perfection of omnivores like bears and dogs, lol!
Put aside all our psychological belief. If you know a bit science, teach your kids some scientific facts that human anatomy is more resembled to vegetarian diet…

Should I hire an attorney or try to settle? If settled, how much?
I have slipped and fell at a grocery store and have been getting the run around for over 1 1/2 years. I suffer from pain and deep tissue damage and affects my work. I finally got a claim number after over 1 year and began to seek out medical treatment but had to stop becuasue the dr. could not be assured that they would pay the bill. After pulling teeth the claims adjust is going to contact me next week to talk about a settlement. I have over 3k in med. bills, need ongoing treatment, and i am a bit over 3months away from 2years from the date of accident.
Should i hire an attorney or take a settlement. If i take a settlement, what would be reasonable?
Are there specifics i should state when they call me next week?
Should I hire an attorney or try to settle? If settled, how much?
You definitely should hire an attorney ASAP. You should have contacted one as soon as you saw you were getting a run around. It seems that the insurance company has been stringing you along, hoping you would blow the statute of limitations on this. You MUST file a law suit by a certain time after your accident, or you will not be able to at all. The time varies from state to state, but for a P.I. case, it is typically 2 or 3 years. You still have time, but NONE to waste. Ref. damages: it is impossible to say what a reasonable settlement should be without a lot more information. The most important thing is what your doctor estimates your degree of permanency (if any) will be, and how much ongoing treatment you will need. Your attorney will negotiate your settlement after he assembles all the info, and should be willing to take this on a contingency basis since there is no question of liability. Your only immediate expenses will be court and sheriff's fees. Again, get an attorney IMMEDIATELY, because you are running out of time!! If you go beyond the statute of limitations, you won't get squat from the insurance company because they will know you can't sue them! Hope this helps. Good luck!
Reply:Call an attorney immediately as you will be taken to the cleaners otherwise.
Reply:You should contact attorney, because they will get the money from your settlement. But they can file more money and cover all the expenses that they can find. In the end, you should get all your medical bills covered. Ask around for someone who had experience in this type of lawsuit.
Reply:get a lawyer. I hope it's not too late to file a suit.
Reply:Regardless of whether you go to court or you settle GET AN ATTORNEY. As for specifics, take every document pertaining to the accident WITH YOU. Also, write down the things you think the attorney should know about the incident. This way you won't forget anything. As for a reasonable settlement, it really depends and your attorney will tell you. Many states have specific guidelines for both settlements AND claims.
Reply:Depends on how good a negotiator you are. If you think you can handle negotiating the settlement, then, maybe try that. I mean, a lawyer is not always the best way to go. You would have to pay him/her and the results could end up the same as you could have done on your own. My advice, get a lawyer, but make sure he/she knows their stuff, because if they don't, you're the one who's going to have to pay. Good luck!

How many days before being put under by anaesthetic do I stop taking Nurofen / aspirin for an operation?
I'm having my wisdom teeth taken out, and was told by a friend who had her wisdom teeth taken out that she had to stop taking Nurofen and Aspirin 5 days prior to her operation.
I went to a different Dr and he just said to tell the Anaesthetist of all the medication I was taking just minutes before the operation begins.
I stopped taking Nurofen (is there Aspirin in this? It doesn't say on the box, and I haven't taken actual ASPIRIN labelled medication) on the day I found out, but between then and the operation it's just 3 and a half days... :S and I can't get through to my Dr or Anaesthetist because of their damn receptionists! What do I do...?
How many days before being put under by anaesthetic do I stop taking Nurofen / aspirin for an operation?
I was told for sinus surgery recently to stop taking all aspirin-like drugs, including ibuprofen, for 2 weeks. Since Nurofen contains ibuprofen, I would have had to stop taking that. Both drugs cause increased bleeding.
All you can do is talk to your doctor when you do get through their receptionist - a little assertiveness gets me through the worst of them to a nurse, at least, who is usually helpful. Meanwhile, by stopping the drug, you've done about all you can. I am guessing that the difference between 3.5 and 5 days isn't going to matter, but your doctor will let you know.
Reply:Optimally, aspirin should be discontinued 14 days prior to surgery. Nurofen (Ibuprofen) should be discontinued 48-72 hours before surgery.
Ibuprofen is much less likely than aspirin to cause any bleeding problem. Just stay off it till your surgery, you will be fine. Get a recommendation from your doctor about how long you should stay off after your procedure.
Reply:I was told to stop taking aspirin %26amp; ibuprofen a week prior to a surgical procedure..
Reply:Nurofen contains ibuprofen which is a blood thinning agent -- just like asprin. All blood thinning agents should be discontinued 2 weeks prior to surgery -- but since you are just having oral surgery then its really up to the Dr's disgression. I dont think that you'll have an anesthesiologist because oral surgeons can administer their own anethesia. If your oral surgeon told you 5 days -- then I would listen to him/her.
Hope that helps.
Reply:Nurofen (Ibuprofen) is not aspirin but non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug; NSAID (analgesic and anti-inflammatory). First, why you are taking it? I think it is mostly chronic arthritis or back pain. How long have you been taking it? and are you taking it regularly? Regular intake of NSAIDs for more than 3 months is not adviced for stomach and kidney toxicity as well as effect on blood coagulation. Newer forms (as Mobic) are less harmful to kidney and stomach but there are doubts concerning their long-term use. What is the dose you are taking?
Anyway, I understood you are taking only Nurofen on regular basis. In such case 3 - 5 days are usually enough. For aspirin, you should stop at least 5 days before surgery. A simple solution is to do what is called "platelet function test", which is a blood test, the night of surgery in any nearby laboratory (but it is not available in every lab and I am not sure about the cost).
Another important concern, if you are taking aspirin, what is the indication? Sometimes, stopping aspirin is more dangerous than the risk of bleeding if you are taking it to prevent heart attacks or cerebral strokes if you are at high-risk for such conditions.
Of course, don't forget to tell your anesthetist and dentist about all your drug history.
Reply:That has nothing to do with the anesthesia - it's strictly for concerns about bleeding.
Aspirin irreversibly inhibits platelet function. Platelets are replaced after 7 days, so a week off aspirin is recommended. We usually also say a week off of NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen, etc.), although a few days is probably enough there.
If you stop the Nurofen (ibuprofen) now, you should be OK. Your oral surgeon should have given you instructions about what to take and what not to take before surgery.
There is no aspirin in Nurofen.

Right ear pain?
Go see a Ear Nose and Throat doctor. They specialize in this area and can help you better then a GP. I had doctor tell me she did not see anything and went to an ENT and turned out I had an infection.
Reply:Try another doctor, its always best to get a second opinion, it could be that you have a issue with your right ear, get a second opinion.
Good Luck!

On my last trip to dentist he cracked a filling. Is the taste in my mouth mercury? It's making my tongue numb.
The dentist even laughed when he did it.Oh, he said .It looks like you"ll be making an appmt. I'm ready to have all (3 or 4) so called silver fillngs removed but fear the pain, extra loss of my real teeth, and post discomfort. I have plans to travel to another counry to visit a friend in 4 weeks and want to have the work done in the UK. The cost is afordable. What Questions should I ask the DR.? My friend has used this dentist . I feel that the Dr. that crack my filling should fix it.My ?? is ,did he just find something that was going to happen soon? Or would my tooth lasted another yr. or 2. Can anyone help with questions and frustations? I don't want to bore anyone with a long story.
On my last trip to dentist he cracked a filling. Is the taste in my mouth mercury? It's making my tongue numb.
If the filling cracked it was probably weak already.
Reply:Why are you having those fillings removed? There is nothing wrong with silver fillings. Some dentists will tell you they are bad just to get more money out of you. Change dentists.
Reply:Go back to your original dentist. You should have at least that cracked filling replaced before your trip.. The crack my extend into the tooth and can be big problems for you if you don't catch it quick...He may do it for nothing if you insist but if your fillings were old, 5 years or more, I doubt it... Save your teeth at all cost!... The taste is probably a bit of decay that was under that old cracked filling... Not sure about the numbness, I think your tongue is naturally going to the area where the tooth is crack and has just become irritated. Mercury in filling is very minuet. It's an amalgam of different metals... Just go get it fixed and enjoy your trip. Nothing is a good as what God gave you, so fix'em so you don't lose'em
Reply:Its good to ask a real pro for advice but from what I have heard silver fillings do contain mercury which is toxic, how much of it is in there though I don't know.
My dentist usually gives my fillings a tug to make sure they aren't loose. The way I see it I have porcelain fillings and they have been in there for years so I would expect them to fail at some point unless I got lucky but then again I don't know what the expected lifetime is on a filling? I know you feel frustrated but as a professional dentist you would guess that he wouldn
t have done something bad on purpose.
The question is kind of complex, did he install the filling, how old is it? The failure of the filling may also have something to do with the way it was put in if its wasn't done properly then that could be part of the reason it failed so its hard to put all of the blame on him, how would you prove that it was put in properly?

Should I also see a doctor?
I went to a dentist I saw on t.v. I had 1/2 my front teeth done by one dentist. Then I was given to another who did the other upper side. Now I have had the front one chip 4 times and I was in a lot of pain on the left side of my face now I also have a gumboil (hurts really bad) . When I touch the left side of my face (near my nose) I can feel the tooth where it was (capped?) move. When he so called fixed it I know he had to drill untill the tooth was almost gone then made a fake one but I don't think it fused together and I can feel it move and its very unpleasant. I also was told by another dentist I think this was the 3rd time they fixed my chip, that they should have used a sandblaster, yes a sandblaster to make the (bondo) stuff stick. But that office didn't have one. He also told me they run for about $2,000.00. Why he said that ???? Now Ive had 6 teeth done already and Ive probably given them that much. Should I go somewhere else? Should I also see a Dr.?
Should I also see a doctor?
By gumboil I assume that you mean abscess as I have never heard of that term. If you're worried about the care that you're receiving you could always go get a second opinion. Technically you should have gone to see an oral surgeon instead of a normal dentist. Your dentist may be able to treat your problem, but oral surgeons do that all day long, unlike your dentist. Plus oral surgeons are trained as dentists too. No you don't have to see a doctor, dentists and oral surgeons are the experts of the mouth.
I hope this helps
Reply:You have an abscess tooth and that is why you have a "gumboil". This is a way for the infection to drain and that is probably why you are not in major pain because the infection is not building up pressure. I would go see another dentist to have anymore work done. You will need to do it soon though. You really need to be put on antibiotics to clear up the infection so you can have a root canal done to keep the tooth. If you don't want to have the root canal done then your only other option would be to have the tooth taken out. Good Luck and I hope that you feel better soon.

doctors are there for a reason, if he didn't want people asking him questions, he shouldn't even be practicing. Speak to a EENT (ear doctor). if you've been swimming, could be swimmers ear. doesn't have to be a ear infection to hurt, it could be as simple a piece of "gunk" (wax) that's harden and jabbing you in the skin. basically, speak to a ear doctor and get a 2nd opinion. for now, take tylenol, heating pad/warm wash cloth and put it under your ear. or try this.
Ear pain can occur due to allergy, filling of wax in the ear, chillness, entry of any foreign body in the ear or infection in the Eustachian tube which connects ear, nose and throat.
Before you reach the hospital
If you have pain while you are lying down, sit down with head held up straight.
Chewing some thing like Chewing gum, will help to open up the clogged Eustachian tube and thus reduce the pain
Avoid cold food and water
Take care to avoid wetting the ear. Close the ears with cotton swabs, while bathing.
Pouring Ayurvedic medicine, 'Balathailam' , will reduce the pain.
Apply warm nutmeg oil in the area surrounding the ear.
hope this helps! get better soon!
Reply:I just answered one just like this so here goes again
I know this works because I had the same thing going on.
drink only warm or hot fluids
stay away from ice cream and cold foods.
if you drink warm fluids it will help open up the eustacean tubes and reduce the pressure that builds up in the inner ear.
so drink warm or hot water consistently
when you have ear pain
if you do have an ear infection you should get it checked out by a dr. but chances are the warm water will do the trick in a day or two.

Been 2 weeks since tooth filling...still sensitive?
i had a tooth filled about 2 weeks ago. The decay was really deep and was close to the nerve but not quite there so the dr. had to put an indirect pulp cap on it. Is it normal for my tooth to still be sensitive? Its stil pretty sensitive to ice water and teh sensitivity stays there for a few seconds. Is this something i should i worry about? I dont wanna go back there unless i really need to cause i dont have insurance and i dont wanna pay money for a visit that wasnt necessary.
Been 2 weeks since tooth filling...still sensitive?
well it coz ur teeth r sensitive... u wud hv experienced da same wen u hv too hot or too cold stuffs.. da latter being the worst case...
The nerve in da tooth usually passes da sensation to da brain.. that is y in root canal, the nerve is taken off so do not feel the pain later on.. try using soft bristles toothbrush an propoer toothpaste.. if u feel the pain even wen u hv normal temperature meals den kindly consult da doc.. he mite giv u a pain killer
Reply:im in the same boat as you. its been a month and i still cant chew anything on it .think i might try another dentist.good luck
Reply:You will probably need to go back and have the root canal done to remove the nerve. Since the decay was really deep the filling is pressing on the nerve which is causing you to be sensitive. Since you don't have any insurance you can wait it out until it gets worse but I would go ahead and have it done now. It is going to get to the point where it will hurt all the time. It will start to become sensitive to hot, pressure, keeping you awake at night or waking you up. It can also cause swelling if it gets bad enough. Good Luck and I hope you feel better soon.

I seem to be having a prob/with my left jaw.?
The nerve in my jaw, underneath my teeth, is infected and it hurts to bite down on the left side of my mouth. It is not the teeth, my teeth are sound, have checked already. The infection seems to get worse every day, where it hurts, like an ice pick jamming my gums, underneath the teeth. Asprin or any pain meds don't work. Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop the pain? I am starving and it hurts to eat the slightest of foods, even chopped up and slowly placed on the right side. It is even difficult to speak %26amp; drink water and even walk. The vibrations of my feet hitting the ground causes unbearable pain. Dr. did prescribe antibioics which didn't work. I am desperate for any ideas. Thank you.

It sounds like the infection may not be totally gone, or the antibiotic your doctor used was not the right one. You need to go back to the doctor and let him/her know you are still in great pain.

Searching for alternate causes of swelling & numbness in half of my upper lip, and the prognosis for recovery?
Approximately month and a half ago i began to have pain between two upper teeth on one side, followed by numbness in my upper lip, only up about as high as a moustache, and nostril. 3 courses of antibiotics, and Dentist did root canal on the adjacent tooth, as he indicated that it was abcessed. Im still having pain between this tooth and the far back tooth, though dentist has looked and sees nothing wrong. Pain does not seem to improve even with brushing/flossing.
Went to my regular physician, and MRI, came back normal, and visited with a neurologist who indicated that he thought I have trigeminal neuralgia because of a constant headache that I have on this same side, some shooting/stabbing pain and tingling in same side.
Over the last week the numbness has spread to area serviced by the 2nd branch of the trigeminal nerve, from mid lip to ear. Dr. has me on Lyrica for the pain, which works at least, but I have questions about alternate causes and prognosis for full recovery?
Searching for alternate causes of swelling %26amp; numbness in half of my upper lip, and the prognosis for recovery?
I had exactly the same thing on my bottom lip. What happened was, the dentist managed to twang a root nerve when he was fiddling around in there.
It DID grow back, but he warned me that there's some small number of cases where it's permanent. I'm convinced that swishing with peroxide every day helped my mouth heal faster, and get on with healing the injured nerve.
In the meantime, it was about two weeks before the nerve went from numb to tingly (like being asleep) and a month or two before I got full feeling back. Now it's like it was never hurt.
Good luck healing!

Please Help! Fussy Baby at 9mo old after COLIC!!!?
We had our 2nd son in May and he had what the dr.s keep telling me is colic. He's STILL an extremely fussy baby most of the time even at 9mo old. Any suggestions? Anyone go through this? I'd appreciate whatever advice I can get at this point. He does have his moments where he'll play good and watch his older brother play, and he's fine if he's being held which is something we've been trying to break for a while now but after colic you do what you can for peace!!!! PLEASE HELP! He only has 2 bottom teeth at this point, he doesn't like juice or water, he doesn't get much "snacks" because of the lack of teeth, he sits on his own, and he's JUST starting to scootch/crawl. He can walk in the walker but he just doesn't like much but being held. Even that sometimes he gets bored and squirmmy. WHAT DO WE DO????? The dr.'s don't have much to say other than he's just a 'fussy baby'. Thanks for the help.
Please Help! Fussy Baby at 9mo old after COLIC!!!?
This may seem out of left field and crazy, but my grandmother used to say the sometimes fussy babies are cold. He might like to be held because he gets chilled easy. It can't hurt trying some heavier socks and a sweater. I know that having a fussy is stressful just hold on, it will pass. Good Luck
Reply:Sorry to hear that you have a fussy baby. I would say go ahead and give him some more snacks. You would be surprised how strong those gums are! Stick your finger in there and see!LOL I think that there are some cheerio like things you can get that almost disolve when you put them in the babies mouth. He would be safe eating them at this age.
Reply:warm baths. and firm bottom thumps.make his formula diluted. ex. when making the concentrate type add 2 cans of water instead of just that one can. this makes it easier to digest. My daughter was like that. It was hell. I did all this and it helped alot. The thumping is what helped the most. the vibrations of the thumping broke down the bubbles in her tummy. she's 9 now and she is lactose intollerant. try using a soy milk too. ask your doctor first.
Reply:I had the same problem with my daughter (Now 11 years old) .I ended up bringing her to a nutritionist who thought she may have a milk allergy.Apparently, some babies don't Develop allergies until 12+ weeks.Anyway, with the recommendation of the nutritionist, I switched my daughter to a soy based formula(prosobee). This seemed to work. Just like you, my doctor kept blowing me off telling me it was colic.Get a second opinion.
Reply:I'd stay your dr. is right I don't think he has colic any longer, perhaps he is very gassy. I also have a 9 month old and it that she always wants to be held when she's tired or has been playing by herself for too long. My daughter has no teeth so good snacks are cheese, cheerios, graham crackers, even meatballs, cooked carrots, noodles, and peaches. He may get better when he learns to crawl.
Reply:Sorry to hear this. Sometime is a hidden cause like allergies to something and no one can pin point it. I know someone who's baby was "colicy" till he was 2 years old. Its really trying on parents. THey dont know why the baby was so upset for 2 year but because of it they choose not to have anymore babies. THeir child literally cried for 2 years straight. He is now a healthy and happy 10year old.
I hope the best for you and that your baby gets less fussy.
Reply:Try using a Johnny jumper. In a doorway where there is activities going on. Try Gerber puffs, dice a banana's, try foods that get soggy. Just keep an eye\ear out. Hope this helps and a Johnny Jumper coat like 10-15 dollars and it worked for my two boys they did not like walkers they loved to jump and swing. Does he eat baby food the Fruit kind I also mixed fruit baby food with my baby's formula just for something different. They loved it. GOOD LUCK
Reply:Well, my son is eleven months old and he is still high maintenance. Before he could crawl though, it was worse because he was wanting to go and he just couldn't. Try him with water in a sippy cup instead of a bottle ir maybe a toddler cup with a straw. He can still eat even though he only has two teeth. They can learn to chew with their gums. Try those gerber puffs they come in fruit flavors and sweet potato flavor and dissolve in their mouth. Maybe a steamed baby carrot cut in half lengthwise, or peas. He could very likely be teething. My son used to like to suck on the bottom of a very cold water bottle. Try wearing a snuggly around the house if you have things to do and he does not want to be put down. Don't worry, my son was very fussy too and always wanted to be held. It passes eventually, and I think once he crawls or walks it might help. Whatever you do, make sure that you hold him and comfort him because he is not just crying for fun, and frustrating as it may be, he is just a baby and he cannot be spoiled by being held and loved. He will only be all the more assured that someone is there for him.
Reply:first of all, there is no such thing as colic. colic is a term doctors use when they are either too lazy to find out whats really wrong with your baby or they just dont know. they told my mother that i had colic as well. i kept vomiting and crying and was always very gassy. turns out it was because my mom was drinking apple juice which is high in acidity and making my sick. she had to figure this out on her own as the drs only ask you what you are eating when you breastfeed.
since your son isnt breastfed im guessing thats not your issue. my daughter is 7 months old and shes getting pretty hard to entertain too. shell be fine for 20-30 minutes playing and then starts getting bored and fussy. plus shes teething.
id get some orajel if you dont already have some to help with the teething because some more teeth could be poking thru. try some arrow root cookies too if hell take one. you want to try and get him on some snack foods now because as they get older they get less open to new things. he sounds like hes quite picky already but dont give up, theres got to be something he likes. it could also be that your trying to feed him when hes not hungry or when he wants his bottle because hes extremely hungry and gets mad because your trying to give him something else. try feeding him snacks between feeding times. also the lack of teeth doesnt matter if your choosing the right snacks. my daughters first tooth is just starting to come thru and shes had arrow roots for about a month now.
another thing that i noticed is that my daughter will get sick of toys. so try switching up the toys that you put with him every time he seems to be getting bored of them.
if he wants to be held it is for a reason. he wants his mom. are you leaving him alone a lot? when my daughters playing i make sure that she can always see me, hear me or both. if i leave the room for a minute i make sure she can still hear me so that she doesnt think that i abandoned her and it usually helps a lot. but she does have her times that she just wants to be with her mom. but you have to realize that this baby was inside of you growing, hearing your heartbeat, and feeling your warmth, and now hes cold and all alone, hes gunna want you sometimes.
have you tried soy formula? my daughter was on formula for the first 2 weeks because i couldnt get her latched and she was really fussy and gassy and i found out later that she has a milk protein intolerance which could be whats making him upset and "colicy"
the last final possibility is that hes getting overtired. when my daughter starts getting fussy it means its naptime. shell go down for her nap and wake up a happy baby again.
well i hope this helped, sorry its so long but theres lots of possibilities here. good luck!

Reply:first of all, there is no such thing as colic. colic is a term doctors use when they are either too lazy to find out whats really wrong with your baby or they just dont know. they told my mother that i had colic as well. i kept vomiting and crying and was always very gassy. turns out it was because my mom was drinking apple juice which is high in acidity and making my sick. she had to figure this out on her own as the drs only ask you what you are eating when you breastfeed.
since your son isnt breastfed im guessing thats not your issue. my daughter is 7 months old and shes getting pretty hard to entertain too. shell be fine for 20-30 minutes playing and then starts getting bored and fussy. plus shes teething.
id get some orajel if you dont already have some to help with the teething because some more teeth could be poking thru. try some arrow root cookies too if hell take one. you want to try and get him on some snack foods now because as they get older they get less open to new things. he sounds like hes quite picky already but dont give up, theres got to be something he likes. it could also be that your trying to feed him when hes not hungry or when he wants his bottle because hes extremely hungry and gets mad because your trying to give him something else. try feeding him snacks between feeding times. also the lack of teeth doesnt matter if your choosing the right snacks. my daughters first tooth is just starting to come thru and shes had arrow roots for about a month now.
another thing that i noticed is that my daughter will get sick of toys. so try switching up the toys that you put with him every time he seems to be getting bored of them.
if he wants to be held it is for a reason. he wants his mom. are you leaving him alone a lot? when my daughters playing i make sure that she can always see me, hear me or both. if i leave the room for a minute i make sure she can still hear me so that she doesnt think that i abandoned her and it usually helps a lot. but she does have her times that she just wants to be with her mom. but you have to realize that this baby was inside of you growing, hearing your heartbeat, and feeling your warmth, and now hes cold and all alone, hes gunna want you sometimes.
have you tried soy formula? my daughter was on formula for the first 2 weeks because i couldnt get her latched and she was really fussy and gassy and i found out later that she has a milk protein intolerance which could be whats making him upset and "colicy"
the last final possibility is that hes getting overtired. when my daughter starts getting fussy it means its naptime. shell go down for her nap and wake up a happy baby again.
well i hope this helped, sorry its so long but theres lots of possibilities here. good luck!

Please Help!!!?
My son has a hives all over his body. He is 9 months old. He cuting teeth 2 at this time Can someone help I have call the dr.
Please Help!!!?
Call the doctor of the emergency room and speak to a nurse. They will probably want you to come in immediately. They need to find out what is going on and treat it. This could be life threatening so you need to do it immediately.
Reply:Take him to the ER. How is his breathing? Don't mess around with this, seek help now. allergic reactions can lead to breathing issues and no time to waste with a baby
Reply:It may be the teething my son always got a rash that looked similar to hives when he teethed. Check with the doctor to make sure it isn't serious.

A little worried about my son teething?
My 8 month old son seems to be teething with one of his front teeth. He already has two teeth at the bottom.
Now i've always been able to seen the outline of his front teeth through his gum when looking straight on. I can still see them both, but the one that is coming through looked bruised and slightly swollen along the whole tooth. I can give you more details, i just don't know what to say :)
He's not really bothered by his mouth, he's playing happily %26amp; still eating/drinking.
Is this normal, or should I take him down to a see a dr (or dentist??)
A little worried about my son teething?
Never hurts to aire on the side of caution. I trip to a pediatric dentist might be a good idea.
Reply:Go with what you are going to be comfortable with here, your concerned, if you can be releived by taking him to his Peditrician, do so, it is worth it.
Reply:Its all perfectly normal...and I hate to be the one to tell you, but it gets worse!
Go to Wal-Mart or your local naturalist store and buy some Hyland's All-natural teething tablets. These things are a life saver and work better tha Tylenol.
Reply:Well go to a doctor as soon as you can they will find something my sister used baby orajel and very cold teething toys so she could relax herself
Reply:If you are concerned, call his pediatrician first, though I'm pretty sure that this swelling is normal. You have to think that something erupting under a flap that was otherwise bare has to hurt and swell. Personally, I wouldn't worry until he ran fever and his habits changed. Good luck.
Reply:It's normal. Don't worry :)

Reply:when you say it looks bruised,do you mean the tooth. i am not sure what a bruised tooth looks like,if it is dark,it may have been damaged .it could have happened while bumping or falling. if a tooth turns dark,he needs to see a dentist. he will probably be fine. the swelling is normal, while teething. my son damaged a baby tooth and it turned dark, luckily it came out at about 5 or 6 and he had a pretty white adult tooth take its place.it can be damaged before it erupts, though. need to check it out. that way you will know for sure and you will not have any regrets about it. by the way,i used to put damp clean washclothes in the freezer for the teething for them to suck on or just hold in their mouths agaist th gums.or put some finely crushed ice on their high chair tray. trying to pick them up and get them to their mouths is great for pincer skills at this age,and hand -eye and motor skills.good luck!

What's going on in my mouth?!?
I woke up yesterday morning with a sore mouth. My right side teeth both top and bottom are sensitive to cold (VERY sensitive) and hurt. It starts at my 3rd tooth back on both the top and bottom and hurts. Yesterday they were just sensitive and hurt a bit, but today as the day has went on they have slowly started hurting even more. I have a tooth on the bottom that had been filled, but the filling came out. It's been that way fror about two years, but I don't have dental insurance so I couldn't get it fixed. Sometimes food gets down where the filling was in between my teeth and it hurts but i just floss and it stops. Can't tell if my face is puffy or anything but my jaw kinda off and on feels tired. My gums are swelled on the top inside but I don't know if that's where I flossed earlier or not. I don't have dental insurance but I do need to know what to do or take.Right now it is a moderate and tolerable pain but I don't want it to keep getting worse. Can you go to a regular dr for this
What's going on in my mouth?!?
The area where you lost your filling has been unprotected all this time. The inner layer of a tooth is not as hard as the enamel and therefore easier to breakdown. Most likely you have new decay in that area and it could possibly be deep enough now that it has effected the nerve. You possibly are grinding on your teeth at night and that is why the top and bottom both hurt. You may have also cracked that weakened tooth from grinding on it. It could be several things. The main thing is that it is talking to you and the problem won't go away until you see a dentist.
You can take some Ibuprofen for now to ease the pain and don't use tartar control toothpaste or whitening toothpaste. They make your teeth more sensitive to colds. Check into getting a night guard to wear during sleeping. You can start with the soft ones you buy in the stores, but a hard one made for you by the dentist is easier to wear. Hope this helped.
Reply:You most likely need a root canal done. The nerve is dying and needs taken out. You might be able to go the doctor and get meds for an infection but most likely you need a dentist because the tooth needs fixed ASAP.
Reply:It sounds like the sensitivity is cause by a nerve in your tooth being exposed to air, which causes a stinging pain. The only thing to do is to go to a dentist. I don't have dental insurance either, but I still go to the dentist regularly.
Reply:If you have a tooth with a missing filling, chances are that you need to see a dentist ASAP--whether you have dental insurance or not. If this tooth has been without coverage for a while, there is likely an infection in the tooth, bone, gums, and surrounding areas. These infections start very small, but over time and without treatment, they can be very serious. You will likely need antibiotics to resolve the infection and a root canal followed by a final filling or crown. If the tooth is nonsalvageable or you cannot afford all of the fees to save it, you will need to have it extracted.
A medical doctor cannot do anything for you. They know nothing about the dental profession. You must see a dentist soon. Good luck. For now, you can take over-the-counter pain medications such as ibuprofen, aspirin, or acetaminophen. There is a temporary filling material available at drug stores in the dental section as well. This would give some relief to your temperature sensitivity.

Help please im in extreme pain and my face is so swollen!!!!!!!?
Firstly: Don't just go to one dentist. Go to a few until someone can assist your problem. Also, check there qualification's.
You may have been bitten by a insect or spider. Examine the problem and look for any dots on your face that are close together.
Talk to your parents about the problem.
Reply:Go to the emergency room...pronto!
Reply:It sounds like a bad sinus infection, which your Dentist should have seen . If I were you I would go to the ER. Good Luck!

Possible gum infection?
Last night my bf said he had a terrible pain in his gums. It's in the area of his second to last tooth (molar). He keeps taking 800mg of Motrin to control the pain. Last night he said it felt swollen, but says it's not any different color than what it should be. I asked him if he's been flossing, which he has, and if his gums bleed, he said no. I'm kind of wondering myself what could be going on. I read a while back about some kid who died because an infection in his teeth and gums went to his brain, and it killed him. I have gum disease because I wasn't flossing enough and I have never had braces so my teeth are to close together. They're not totally f__ed up, but not perfect either. His teeth are fine. He's never had any real problems. I think that he said something though one time about a filling that might have fallen out. I just had mine that fell out replaced, but I never had any severe pain in the area. Can anyone tell me what's up? He goes to the regular dr tomorrow.
Possible gum infection?
Like the other answers, I believe the problem is related to his wisdom teeth. 90% of our patients describe the same symptoms as your friend has when calling into our office. Depending on whether or not the teeth are impacted (basically trying to erupt but sideways) will depend on what treatment will be required. A general dentist can take a panoramic xray (picture off all his teeth) and determine if he'll need to see an oral surgeon for removal. Some people never get their 3rd molars (I am knocking on wood as I type this) and most come in with some discomfort yet no significant problems. And as a foot note, a lot of Motrin or asprin or ibuprophen is not good for his liver. I'd recommend getting to a dentist so he'd at least know his options.
ps the child that died had not been to the dentist for sometime because his mother had not renewed his medicaid. The severity of the infections was due to lack of treatment. It did spread into the blood stream and resisted antiboitics. He was 12. This does not sound like the same thing.
Reply:if he hasn't had any wisdom teeth yet, that could be causing the soreness=they like to grow in under our molars ,pushing them up
Reply:yeah, i agree with the above answer. could very possibly be wisdom teeth. before i had mine pulled out they caused intense mouth and neck pain.

Im getting braces but why didnt i get spacers?
like a week ago i went into consultation with m orthodontist , he said i needed braces, i got impressions, measurements and photographs of my teeth and i was scheduled an appointment in 2 weeks for braces placement, but i was wondering why i didnt get spacers? no oneee not even the dr. mentioned spacers its not even in the info packet and yes my back teeth re really close i dont have a gap or anything.
Im getting braces but why didnt i get spacers?
your orthodontist is probably not stupid and knows you don't have to have them. if you got the right braces no one needs them
Reply:maybe your teeth aren't that close together as you think they are. if you can slip dental floss in between your back teeth okay, then that's maybe enough room. it doesn't necessarily have to have a GAP. just enough room for your molar bands.
Reply:Maybe you dont need them
Reply:It's good that you don't need them!!
The reason that some orthodonsists use them is because they put a band all the way around your back molar. However, alot of orthodontists have stopped doing this and don't have any bands that go all the way around your back teeth thus removing the need for spacers.
Reply:Lucky! I thought the spaces were worse than getting my braces.
I'm guessing your orthodontist thought there was enough space around your molars for your bands. My teeth are so tight getting floss in between them is a struggle

OMG...TOOTHACHE PLEASE HELP ME!!! (Wisdom & Molars)?
I have a whole in my upper "molar" on the left side, My molar to the bottom feels like there's a heart beating in it or something :(.....I am gettin Wisdom teeth one is finished and is hurtin already :( and I have three more spots where my gums are soar, I have been in terrible pain since Thursday, below I will list the meds my mom gave me...
1. Orajel "Medicated Tooth Swabs"
2. Orasol "Maxium Strength"
3. Tylenol "EX"
4. Salt Water (Rinsed With)
5. Dr. Tichenor
I'm deadly afraid of needles being stuck in my mouth, I want to know if I asked to be put asleep will my dentist put me to sleep to remove my teeth :(???
P.S. I forgot to mention how bad my ears are killing me and I have a terrible pounding on the left side of my head...
OMG...TOOTHACHE PLEASE HELP ME!!! (Wisdom %26amp; Molars)?
1st off let the dentisit know your scared and see if they will let you use the laughing gas. It doesn't put you to sleep but you will be more relaxed. Secondly, be aware the only needle the dentist uses is the 1 to inject the numbing meds which there should already be numbing med on the application spot so you don't feel the needle. 3rd, If may be able to be saved with a root canal and crown and the bottom probably needs just a filling. When 1 tooth acts up the closest one to it will too. Also when your wisdom teeth come in they place alot of pressure on your other teeth because they are moving them. You may have over crowding going on in there which will causse your wisom teeth to make your mouth hurt. In which case yes you will get something pulled. As far as your ears go this could be from the pressure and irritation going on in your mouth or and ear infection. Your best suggestion is to take something to relax and go to the dentist asap.
Reply:1 is best, and ask for twlight if dentis fear you, they will but they do not like to.
Reply:go to the dentist
Reply:Wisdom teeth are the worst when they come in. I had alot of pain and swelling with mine. The earaches are from all that is going on with your molars. Best to have a dentist check them out in case you are getting impacted. That is alot worst.
Reply:I believe you need to seek professional medical help as soon as possible. Do that first. Everything else is secondary. Bone damage, heart valve damage and blood poisoning along with other things can happen if you do not get proper care immediately.
Your doctor/dentist can assist you with the proper procedure to ease your fears. If not, they can refer you to a dentist that is willing to.
All our symptoms point to the need for you to seek professional medical help immediately.
Reply:You need to get to your dentist or doctor right away!! Don't let the fear of needles being stuck in your mouth keep you from seeking help. There are different ways of helping you "relax" at the dentist office. Don't take the chance of this progressing into something worse! Take care.

Paralized...?
I got one wisdome tooth taken out five days ago. Everything is ok now, it doesn't hurt anymore. But, I feel half of my lip, gum and teeth (lower left side) numb. I thought it was the anestecia, so I called the dr. on Monday asking if it was normal. He said it wasn't the anestecia, he said that the root of the tooth was so deep, that he hit a nerve, and that is why I feel the numbness sensation. He said it should go away in a few days, gave me some medication....
BUT
I'm scared I won't get the sensibility back! I feel it paralized, like numb. It hasn't gotten any better, I pinch myself on the lip, and can't feel a thing.
Has this happened to anyone?
Paralized...?
What your dentist said makes perfect sense. And temporary paralysis is fairly common after surgery, because surgery is an invasive procedure. It's happened to me, and the feeling does come back in time. Hang in there, it should get better soon!
Reply:sue him and what not
Reply:Give it a few more days and call him again. You may have a malpractive suit. If so call a lawyer who specializes in malpractice cases.
Reply:if you're older than teenage years, it's possible that your roots developed and frankly you did it to yourself by getting your wisdom teeth taken out later in life because teens don't have the roots and the surgery is less risky. if you are a teen, um, dunno what to tell you. it'll probably come back easier if you're younger I'd imagine.

"It's Ground Hog Day"?
questions about this movie.
1. How long was Phil there...he learned to play piano, became a Dr. and learned the routines of all in town.
2. Andie McDowell...Do her teeth bother you too??? I mean the movies been around for a while, but jeez, didn't they have a dentist that could do something with her teeth?
3. At the end of the movie, didn't you think Phil should be happier....he was out of his personal hell....
Any thoughts...
"It's Ground Hog Day"?
1. According to the director's commentary about 10 years.
2. Images of beauty are of an individual and personal nature. What you find objectionable may not bother others.
3. I think he was happy, however he had learned over the time he was trapped to be gracefully grateful.
Reply:That is kind of you to say, thank you. Report It
Reply:1. Yep about ten years

Is it true that Pit Bulls can lock their jaw?
The infamous locking jaw is a myth. The American Pit Bull Terrier and related breeds are physiologically no different from any other breed of dog. All dogs are from the same species and none have locking jaws. Dr. I Lehr Brisbin of the University of Georgia states, "To the best of our knowledge, there are no published scientific studies that would allow any meaningful comparison to be made of the biting power of various breeds of dogs. There are, moreover, compelling technical reasons why such data describing biting power in terms of 'pounds per square inch' can never be collected in a meaningful way. All figures describing biting power in such terms can be traced to either unfounded rumor or, in some cases, to newspaper articles with no foundation in factual data." Furthermore, Dr. Brisbin states, "The few studies which have been conducted of the structure of the skulls, mandibles and teeth of pit bulls show that, in proportion to their size, their jaw structure and thus its inferred functional morphology, is no different than that of any breed of dog. There is absolutely no evidence for the existence of any kind of 'locking mechanism' unique to the structure of the jaw and/or teeth of the American Pit Bull Terrier
Is it true that Pit Bulls can lock their jaw?
I am so glad there are some people that do their very best to educate those that only listen to the horror stories told about pitbulls. If just one person is reached you are a success and hopefully in time those figures will reach great numbers and the fear and prejudice that follows pitbulls will be gone.
Reply:It's not true, but you already knew that, therefore this isn't a question at all.
Reply:Why answer your own question?
Reply:no, pit bulls cannot lock their jaw. it's just a myth.
Reply:Asking and answering your own question? Watch out.
Anyway, "locking jaws" does sound ridiculous. But Pit Bulls are the strongest dogs I have ever encountered. You really don't want to be anywhere near a badly trained or mean one!
Reply:No they can not lock their jaws
Reply:I kew that!
Reply:Why you would answer your own question is mind boggling!
Reply:you already knew the answer, but u probably just needed someone else to say so, so i will say it, "NO", and pls the formula is simple here, you ask, others answer
Reply:They cannot lock their jaws, but they're jaws are very powerful. Hence all the controversey with owning one. But the nature of a pitbull is all dependent on its owner. I had a red nose, pure white. And that dog had the nature of a golden retriever. He was more scared of you than you were of him. My boyfriend had the same colored dog, from the same litter, and he trained that dog to protect. That dog stayed outside and chained up. He was mean as all hell.
Reply:I don't think it was answer their own question but more to put the fact out there for all of us that clicked on to see what everyone else had to say.
Reply:nope there jaw structure is the same as every other dogs. Plus you already answered your own question so why did you ask in the first place?
Reply:NOT TRUE! please look at this video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwI_qlq5v...
Reply:Pit bull types do not have locking jaws, as you already stated, but they do have a quality that no other canine posses... Gameness. It is the gameness of a dog that keeps them holding on to something.
Their jaw structure is no different than any other breed of dog.
For those that don't know... "game" is the never quit, never give in trait that only the American Pit Bull Terriers possess, and not all of them have it.
Reply:No they cant lock there jaw im still not sure why so many people think they can.... but again people think my shar-peis have lock jaw too which is 100% false... i wish people would learn more about a breed before giving addvice they dont really know anything about!!
Reply:Yeah its true Pitbulls can Lock there jaws and clamp down i remember reading it in the newspaper long ago little girl was riding a bike pitbull jumped over the fence and attacked the girl locked the jaws into her legs and she was injured

The Movie Ground Hog Day with Bill Murray?
questions about this movie.

2. Andie McDowell...Do her teeth bother you too??? I mean the movies been around for a while, but jeez, didn't they have a dentist that could do something with her teeth?
3. At the end of the movie, didn't you think Phil should be happier....he was out of his personal hell....

The Movie Ground Hog Day with Bill Murray?
1. During one of the featurettes on the DVD, I believe the screenwriter says that Phil was there for hundreds if not thousands of years!
2. Andie McDowell is very pretty, despite having some less-than-perfect teeth.
3. I don't think it would have been appropriate for Phil to have reacted much more excitedly than he did because by the end of the movie, he had come to enjoy his existence living the small-town life. He was NOT living a personal hell by that time.
Incidentally, I was just thinking of Bill Murray and his being in Groundhog Day, in particular, just this morning when my brothers and sisters were watching Space Jam, which features an expanded cameo of Bill Murray. ;)
Reply:When Bill and Andie are flipping cards into a hat on his bed, I believe he said around 6 months or so.
I never really noticed her teeth.

How long should i take Claritin 4 allergies?
I had bad breath but it was not coming frm my teeth since after eating i brush, floss, scrape tounge. I went to a Dr abt this problem and i explained that my bad breath is coming from my upper throat ( where the air goes in when u breath through your nose)......sorry abt that....i just dont know what that part is called. I dont have sinus problems or allergies....but she told me to take claritin......loratadine tablets 10mg/antihistamine......I cant afford to go back to the Dr now. So my question is how long can i take this medicine? I have been taking it for 3 months and the bad breath is gone it comes back when i stop taking them.
Oh i this the cause of bad breath is the stinky mucus that comes out when i......i dont know how to explain this...but u know when u making that soung to pull out the mucus that is back there inside .........ok when i so that i always pull this stinky red mucus ..sometimes its red.........
How do you know if you have allergies, cause i dont look sneeze
How long should i take Claritin 4 allergies?
Many people take Claritin year round for years. Eventually it does stop working as well and you may need to see about switching to a different allergy medicine, though I'm not familiar with it's affect on breath unless your bad breath could be the result of drainage from the sinuses or something. But, if it's working keep taking it.
